Choosing A Guillotine Paper Cutter

If you're looking for a guillotine paper cutter, you've probably noticed that there are a lot of trimmers available. It can be difficult to determine which one is right for you, so here are the things you need to consider as you shop:

  • Size. You will need to consider the size of the paper you're going to be using and choose a cutter that can accommodate it. Cutters range widely in size with the largest ones being capable of cutting paper that's up to 36” long. While the blade's length is important, the size of the cutting table should also be considered. The table should be large enough to support your paper.
  • Cutting capacity. How many sheets do you want to cut at once? This is important because you need to consider the trimmer's cutting capacity. The best cutters (which also happen to be the more expensive ones) have sharper blades and can cut more paper at once. Also, the higher quality cutters can cleanly cut individual sheets of paper, so keep an eye out for them.
  • Safety features. Guillotine cutters can be very dangerous so you need to choose one that has good safety features. For one thing, the trimmer should have a tension spring to prevent the blade from falling when it's raised. You should also look for a blade guard to keep your fingers safe. And the trimmer should have a blade latch that will keep the blade down when you're not using the cutter. If the trimmer you're looking at doesn't have these features, don't buy it and instead purchase one that does. And remember that while these safety features are important, common sense and caution also matter. So be careful when cutting.
  • Other features. Finally, there are some other features to look for, if you're interested in them. A paper clamp can be helpful because it will keep your sheets steady when you're cutting. Some trimmers have measurement grids printed on the base which make it easier to get the cut you need. And there are cutters that have adjustable paper stops that make cutting large amounts of paper a snap. You should also make sure that the cutter comes with a decent warranty so you're covered in case you experience any problems with it.

Size, cutting capacity, and safety features are all important things to keep in mind when looking for a guillotine cutter. You might also want to look for the other features mentioned above if you're interested in them. By looking for these features, it will be easy to choose the cutter that's right to you.
