Seven Features to Look For In a Great Electric Comb Binding Machine
If you're looking for an electric comb binding machine, you obviously want to choose one that has the right features so you can make your documents look as professional as possible. But do you know what to look for? Check out the seven features to look for in a great comb binding machine:
Metal construction. Since you're making an investment in your new machine, choose one that is made out of metal. These devices last much longer than machines made from plastic and they're suitable for high volume applications. They also work better so you can stay as productive as possible.
Punching activator. Electric comb binding machines have one of two types of punching activators. Sometimes the activator is a button that's on top of the machine. And there are also devices that are activated by a foot pedal. You might want to opt for a device with a foot pedal because it will keep your hands free as you work.
Disengageable dies. It's always helpful to have an electric comb binding machine equipped with disengageable dies. If your device has this, you can disengage certain punching pins to create the right hole pattern for different sizes of paper. This will prevent you from creating documents that have a partial hole at the end of the paper.
Depth of punch margin control. If you want your documents to be strongly bound no matter how thin or thick they are, you need a machine with a depth of punch margin control. This feature allows you to determine where the holes are punched in relation to the edge of the paper. If the holes are too close to or too far from the edge, your document may fall apart or be difficult to read.
Punching length. Most comb binding machines can punch letter-sized paper (8.5” x 11”). However, if you want to work with paper of varying sizes, you need to choose a device with an open throat. When making your selection, it's a good idea to get a machine with a throat that's larger than you think you'll need, just to be on the safe side.
Punching capacity. Since punching your paper can be time-consuming, you'll want to choose a machine that has a large punching capacity. There are machines that can punch as many as 30 sheets per lift, so you shouldn't have trouble finding a device that's right for you.
Warranty. Finally, be sure to choose an electric comb binding machine that's backed by a good warranty. Warranties for these machines can last from 90 days to 2 years. Some of them are “repair and return” warranties while others ensure your machine will be replaced. Check out the warranty before making your final decision.
These are the seven features to look for when choosing an electric comb binding machine. If you choose one with these features, you'll be getting a machine that's just right for your needs. Happy binding!
