Tips and Tricks for Binding Documents with ZipBind
If you own a plastic comb binding machine, you'll be glad to know that you can use another type of binding implement with it. These implements are GBC ZipBind spines and they use the same 19-hole pattern used in comb binding. Best of all, ZipBind supplies are easy to use. If you want to use the zipper tool that came in your box of ZipBind spines, make sure you close the first few loops of the spine manually. This will make it easier to use the tool. Keep in mind that the tool can also be used to open the spines.
There are two styles of ZipBind spines. The old ones are available in black and frost, and come in two sizes: 3/8” and 1/2”. They can be used to bind documents that are up to 85 pages long. The newer ZipBind spines are available in black and there are three sizes: 5/16”, 5/8”, and 1/2”. The newer spines have narrower rings and are great for work that contains 100 pages or less.
There's a piece of blue plastic in every box of ZipBind spines. Make sure you hold on to it. You can place this piece on your comb binding machine's comb opener. It will act as a ZipBind spine folder which makes the binding process much easier.
If you don't have a comb binding machine, you don't need to get one to take advantage of ZipBind spines. Just buy paper that's been punched for plastic comb binding and you'll be ready to go. This will save you the time, cost, and hassle of getting a comb binding machine.
Since you don't technically need a binding machine to use ZipBind spines, they can be used when you're out in the field. Just take along some pre-punched paper and some spines, and you can bind wherever you want. You might also want to get the GBC CombBind C55 so you can punch documents, if necessary.
