A paper folder is like any other machine in that it needs regular maintenance in order to perform at its peak. Luckily, paper folder maintenance is easy. Just follow these tips:
Before doing any maintenance, make sure that your paper folder is unplugged for safety purposes. Also, be sure to always keep hands, jewelry, and clothing away from the moving parts when the paper folder is operating.
Cover your paper folder when you're not using it. Doing this will prevent dust and debris from building up on the rollers. If there's a lot of debris on the rollers you might end up with a paper jam.
You should clean the rollers on a regular basis to ensure that they'll work efficiently. The best way to do this is by wiping down the rollers with a little bit of soap and water. (Obviously, the machine should be unplugged when you do this.) You might need to remove the rollers to clean them. However, if you can't remove the rollers without tools, just leave them be.
If dust, ink, paper bits, and so on build up on the paper feed roller or separator, you'll notice that the machine's performance will suffer. You should clean these parts with soap and water every so often to prevent this from happening. Also, be sure to clean the paper feed tires so your documents won't become marked.
Your paper folder has a number of wearable parts including the paper feed roller, rubber brake, and feed separator. If these parts become cracked or look worn, it's time to replace them, especially if they're no longer grabbing paper like they used to.
Maintaining your paper folder is easy as long as you follow the tips listed above. If you experience any problems with your machine despite performing regular maintenance, you should have a technician look at it to see what's wrong. Good luck and happy folding!
