If you have been looking at different shredders and are confused about the different levels of security you are not alone. Unfortunately, there is no single standard for measuring the level of security of a paper shredder. This has led each manufacturer to come up with their own terminology for describing the security that their shredders offer. As you can imagine, this makes measuring the security of shredders across different brands very difficult. This article is designed to help you determine the security level of any shredder no matter who the manufacturer is.
Before we look at the different types of shredders, there is one important thing to remember when considering the security of any particular shredder. No matter who the manufacturer of the shredder is, the smaller the particles that it produces the higher the security is. With this in mind, there are four main types of paper shredders available on the market.
Few people realize that shredding documents is not always enough to protect your sensitive information. There are actually computer programs that can help to piece back together shredded documents. However, the smaller the pieces that your shredder produces the harder it will be for anyone to ever reassemble the documents. Just keep in mind that as the security level goes up the speed generally decreases and the price increases. This is something to keep in mind as you attempt to balance your budget against your need for document security.
