The steel cutting shafts are driven by a powerful single phase motor which is double protected against overheating. It is rated for continuous operation use, meaning your shredder won't need downtime to rest after long periods of use. The gearbox is encapsulated in a dustproof housing to help avoid corrosion. All these work to ensure your machine stays in top running condition.

The 3103 comes with a Safety Protection System installed. A clear safety guard covers the feed entry, preventing ties and other objects from getting caught in the blades. Once paper is inserted into the opening, a photo cell controlled on/off activates the blades. An "Easy Switch" includes three operations on one control for convenient use: stand-by, stop, and reverse. Stop is triggered when the shred bag is full, the cabinet is ajar, or if there is a jam. If a paper jam occurs, the auto reverse feeds paper back out to the user, helping to unclog the blades. An energy saving mode kicks in after one hour of inactivity, powering the device down to a sleep mode to conserve electricity.

A wide 12 inch opening can handle up to 18 sheets at once, including credit cards and CDs. The cross cutting mechanism devours the documents as fast as 27 feet per minute, quickly destroying your shredding pile. The remnants are merely 3/16 inch by 1-1/2 inch and rate a level 3 security, small enough to keep most information safe.

The shreds fall into a 37 gallon disposable shred bag, suspended from a pull-out bag frame on rollers for easy removal. The container is located inside a high quality wooden cabinet mounted on casters for easy mobility. Acting as a noise reducer, the wood absorbs sound from the motor to give you a quieter working environment.

This device only accepts 15-18 sheets at once. For smaller to medium offices, this combined with a shredding speed of 27 feet per minute is more than adequate to handle their needs. However, businesses requiring higher volumes of shredding should look at some of MBM's models with larger capacities and faster shredding rates.
