The HSM 125.2 Level 2 Strip Cut Office Shredder is a mobile, high performance model for use as a shared device in busy offices. This shredder can easily shred store cards, credit cards and also CDs as well as floppy disks (details see below*). The HSM 125.2 includes a modern electronic controller, photoelectric cell for automatic start/stop control, an on/off switch with integrated reversing function and a safety element above paper intake, with a seperate infeed slot for CDs/floppy disks. Plus the 125.2 HSM Shredder has a stand-by mode with LED indicator and it stops automatically when the container is full and door is open. It even has a waste container with a reusable collecting bag.

For a mobile shredder offering high performance, check out the HSM 125.2 Level 2 Strip Cut Office Paper Shredder. This device is ideal for a central, shared device for use between 5-7 people. It offers automatic features for simple operation and a sturdy motor to withstand moderate shredding. Let's take a closer look at some of the details.

Strengths:

With a modern electronic controller, use is completely automated once the device is turned on. It will sit in standby mode, not consuming energy, until the sensor detects items in the feed. Then the blades begin shredding automatically and stop when finished. The auto stop also kicks in then the shred bag is full or the cabinet door is open. Reverse will send overfed paper back out to the user for simple clearing of jams. An LED panel keeps the user constantly aware of the machine's operational status.
The powerful motor uses a specially adjusted drive system for higher performance and longer use. The closed-tooth wheel drive system prevents dirt from sneaking into the engine, decreasing wear while increasing service life. Thermal protection keeps the motor from overheating while a fully enclosed housing prevents the spread of paper dust.
A safety shield covers the wide 10 inch opening. Depending on which model you purchase, 18-20 sheets can enter the blades at once. A separate slot accommodates CDs and floppy disks. All materials are shred as fast as 24 feet per minute. Either ¼" or 1/8" strips are created; both provide a level two security rating. The thin strips fall into a generous 12.7 gallon reusable shred bag housed in a pull-out cabinet.
This product comes with a 20 year warranty on the cutting shafts with two year coverage for parts and labor.

Weaknesses:

Although this device is rated for use in a busy mid-size office, it doesn't offer a continuous duty motor. While the drive system does offer longer periods of constant shredding, it will still need cool off times throughout the day. For light to moderate shredding needs, this most likely won't be a problem. But offices with medium to higher shredding usage will prefer a larger model with a more powerful motor, such as the HSM 386.2.
While the ability to shred CDs and floppy disks is a nice benefit, it makes the integrated waste difficult to recycle without separating the plastic out by hand. It would be great to see segregated shred bins for paper and plastic waste, which may or may not be an issue for you. If it is, we suggest you check out a machine with this specific feature, which unfortunately isn't found in HSM's line.

Overall, the 125.2 Strip Cut Shredder is well-able to handle the demands of a busy office. While it would be nice if it could run all day, it is still powerful enough to handle extended shredding periods. With automatic features for easy use, an LED display panel, and a large waste storage to minimize emptying, this device was designed for convenience. We think the HSM 125.2 Strip Cut is an excellent choice for your next office shredder.
