Ease of use is given by the many automatic and safety features. Operation is controlled by a safety locking key that turns the device on and off. A plastic curtain hangs in front of the opening and protects the user from any potential flying particles. As items slide down the conveyor belt into the blades, a sensor detects possible overfed paper. The reverse jam feature kicks in to reverse and re-feed the materials. After three unsuccessful tries, the items are fed back to the operator for separation. An emergency shut down bar stretches across the front of the shredder. It is activated by pressure to prevent someone from leaning against it while reaching for the blades. Power is removed from the cutting shafts to help avoid accidental injuries.

A large workspace offers storage for piles waiting to be shred. The convenient conveyor belt system allows you to simply toss stacks onto the belt and the machine will feed the items into the wide 20 inch opening. As many as 550 sheets can enter at once and shred as fast as 50 feet per minute. That equals approximately 1800 pounds of throughput in one hour. This device can even take in credit cards, CDs, floppy disks, and three ring binders.

A large 118 gallon waste container catches the paper shreds. Casters on the bottom allow it to easily slide out for simple removal and replacement of the shred bag.

Weighing around 1600 pounds when empty, this is one hefty piece of equipment. Unfortunately only the waste bin is on casters, not the entire unit. If you need to move it, we suggest using a heavy duty appliance dolly to help you.

The small pieces created by the blades only earn a level 2 security rating. For generic office shredding and low risk documents, this is an adequate rating. However, for confidential information, you might prefer the higher security, smaller cross cut version of this model, the S16.50 6mm x 15mm-50mm, which offers a level 3 security rating.
