Martin Yale Intimus Smartfold 2051 Electronic Paper Folding Machine

The Intimus 2051 is a fully electronic paper folder. All you need to do in order to set it up is press a button. There are no screws to loosen and you don't need to worry about making sure that the fold plates are square before you begin. This makes the 2051 an ideal machine for Churches, quick printers and other organizations that need to switch between different folding styles on a regular basis. Plus the extra large feed rollers and heavy duty construction of the Smarfold 2051 allow it to be used with heavy duty stocks as thick as 110lb index and with semi glossy stocks (at slower speeds). With 7 pre-programmed fold types, letter, z-fold, half, double parallel, gate, engineering (aka short z-fold) and church fold; 5 pre-programmed paper sizes, 8 1/2" x 11", 8 1/2" X 14". 11" X 17", A3 and A4, this folder is ready to go to work. With fully enclosed fold tables, the operation is quieter and the operator has improved safety. The Intimus 2051 even offers batching to allow you to stop the folder after a certain number of folds so that you can package your materials for your customers.

Martin Yale Intimus 2051 Electronic Paper Folding Machine Review

The Martin Yale Intimus 2051 Electronic Paper Folder is one device to take note of among many folders. Built to withstand high volume folding while providing simple operation, this machine is ideal for churches, offices, marketing departments, and copy shops. It requires no setup and handles a wide range of paper weights, sizes, and folds with ease. Here's a more in-depth look.

Strengths:

  • Extra large feed rollers slide single sheets into the plates. A fine tuning mechanism ensures precise folds. Heavy duty construction allows the folding of heavier duty stocks, including some semi-glossy papers at slower speeds. The wide paper weight range, 16lb bond to 110lb index, is automatically compensated for and doesn't require feed system adjustment, saving you time between jobs.

  • If a misfeed or other error occurs, a diagnostic mode is designed to give quick and easy trouble shooting and setup instructions. Seven sensors aid in the problem solving.

  • An LCD display allows guided selection of paper sizes and folds while giving visual feedback. A counter tallies the total number of folded items as well as offering batch folding. Batch folding eliminates the need to count out how many sheets you need folded and allows you to simply load a stack of paper, insert the number, and let the machine count for you.

  • Seven preset folds are shown on the LCD panel, including "C", "Z", half, double parallel, gate, engineering, and church folds. You can also create and store up to ten custom folds in memory for quick retrieval when needed. The fold trays are completely enclosed to provide quieter and safer operation.

  • Five pre-programmed paper sizes make selection easy. They include letter, legal, 11" x 17", A3, and A4 sizes. The machine can be set to fold as small as 2.5" x 5.2" and as large as 12" x 18".

  • The hopper can hold up to 500 sheets of letter size 20lb bond paper. An additional manual feed allows the combined folding of up to four pages, loose or stapled. Variable speed folds from 3000 to 15,000 sheets per hour, depending on paper size and weight.

  • Martin Yale provides a one year limited warranty on this product.

Weaknesses:

  • As you can probably imagine, a machine with this much capacity is very large, weighing 102 pounds. Since it is designed to sit on a flat surface, there aren't casters on the bottom to move it around. If you will need to frequently relocate your folder, we recommend storing it on a cart.

  • One feature seen on comparable machines but not this one is the ability to score, slit, and perforate documents for a truly multi-tasking device. Many offices might not use this feature and wouldn't miss it on this machine. But if that is something you're looking for, we suggest you check out the MBM 352F which comes with that equipment.

Even with a few minor downsides, the Martin Yale 2051 is a great paper folder. Electronic features offer simple, uncomplicated use. High speeds provide efficiency and heightened productivity, saving you both time and money. With such a wide range of materials accepted, this device combines convenience with functionality. We think most offices would benefit from the 2051 as their next folder.
