The new Fellowes EXL 45-3 is a high quality pouch laminator designed for occasional use for small projects for your home or office environment. This personal pouch laminator is made for laminating documents up to 4-1/2" in width and does not require a carrier. The small profile of the EXL 45-3 means it will fit on your desktop without taking up too much space. You can use the EXL 45-3 to laminate with hot pouches that are up to 5mil thick, and is perfect for laminating IDs, photos, and other small documents. The laminator heats up in approximately 4 minutes with a ready light and beep indicator, and can laminate a document in less than 30 seconds. The EXL 45-3 has three temperature settings and comes equipped with an auto shut-off that prevents overheating when the laminator is not in use.

Fellowes EXL 45-3 Laminator Review

Overview:

Do you need a pouch laminator that can process small items such as snapshots and ID cards? If so, the Fellowes EXL 45-3 just might be right machine for you. Let's check out its strengths and weaknesses so you can learn all about this device....

Features/ Strengths:

The EXL 45-3 is a great choice if you need to laminate small items on a regular basis. This device has a 4.5-inch feed opening so you can laminate things like name tags, business cards, and so on.
This laminator is pretty speedy and it only need 4 minutes to completely warm up. (A light will go on and you'll hear a beep when the machine is ready to go.) Once the device is ready, it can process an item in about 30 seconds.
The EXL 45-3 is compatible with 5 mil laminating pouches. These pouches will give your materials a good amount of protection so they can withstand frequent handling. Five mil pouches are easy to find and they're usually pretty affordable.
Using this laminator is incredibly easy. All you need to do is turn it on, select the appropriate temperature setting, and feed your item into the machine when it's ready. You can laminate without a carrier if you want. (However, using a carrier is recommended so you can keep the machine in good shape.)
The EXL 45-3 can shut off automatically if it hasn't been used for a while. This feature will help you conserve power and it will prevent the motor from burning out.
You won't need to make a lot of space for this laminator. Its dimensions are 3� (height) x 10� (width) x 6� (depth) so it can fit just about anywhere.
This laminator is affordably priced so it's a good choice if you're on a budget. The machine is covered by a 2-year warranty so you can have it fixed or even replaced if necessary.

Limitations/Weaknesses:

Since the EXL 45-3 is a small laminator it can't be used to laminate larger materials including letter-sized times. You should choose a larger machine if you need to process larger materials.
This device isn't compatible with 7 and 10 mil laminating pouches. However, the 5 mil pouches should give your items just the right amount of protection.
Finally, you can't use mounting boards with this machine.

Recommendation:

The Fellowes EXL 45-3 obviously has a few weaknesses but that's to be expected with a small laminator. These machines are designed for smaller materials and thus, they simply can't accommodate larger items. The good news is the the EXL 45-3 has a lot of strengths which makes it a perfect choice if you need a small laminator. This device warms up quickly, it can shut off automatically, and it doesn't take up much room. Best of all, the machine is easy to use so you can get good results without a lot of effort. The EXL 45-3 is a terrific small laminator so be sure to check it out if it sounds like the right machine for you.
