Fellowes Proteus 2 125 Pouch Laminator Review

Fellowes is known for making high-quality pouch laminators for a variety of uses. To kick off 2012, the company has put out a number of new machines including the Proteus 125. This machine is one of Fellowes' most durable laminators and it has some pretty amazing capabilities that should appeal to people needing a commercial-grade machine. Check out the device's strengths and weaknesses to decide if it's the laminator you need:

Strengths:

  • The Proteus 125 has a 12.5-inch feed opening that accommodate documents of varying sizes. This machine is suitable for laminating certificates, menus, business cards, and other documents you encounter during the workday.
  • You will be able to use pouches that are up to 10 mil thick with this machine. You don't need to use a carrier with this device, however doing so is recommended. The carrier will prevent adhesive from getting all over the interior of the device. This results in fewer pouch jams. (If a jam does occur, use the machine's reverse mode to solve the problem.)
  • The Proteus 125 warms up in 5 minutes and it has a top laminating speed of 41” per minute. The device has adjustable speed settings and there's a chart on the front of it to help you choose the right settings. When you know which setting is right, use the device's keypad to make your selection.
  • This laminator is compatible with mounting boards, so you will be able to use it for special projects. Also, the device is meant for frequent use, so it's pretty durable. You can expect to get a lot of use out of it.
  • The Proteus 125 has six rollers so everything you laminate will look fantastic. Also, the machine has a cold setting so you can laminate thermally sensitive items such as photographs and ink-jet printouts without any trouble.
  • Finally, this laminator is covered by a 1-year warranty so you can have it repaired (or replaced) if the need arises.

Weaknesses:

  • The Proteus 125 lacks the sleek design of other Fellowes laminators. However, it is still fairly compact thanks to its dimensions of 23” (height) x 12” (width) x 6” (depth). It's a good choice if you need a durable laminator that can fit in a relatively small space.
  • Since this device is meant for frequent use, it's a bit pricier than many of Fellowes' laminators. You will want to take price into consideration when deciding if this is the right laminator for you or not.

As you can see, the Fellowes Proteus 125 has many more strengths than weaknesses. This is a terrific pouch laminator that can withstand a lot of use and it will give you the results you need whether you're working with thin pouches or thick ones, or even mounting boards. The device is user-friendly so you will be able to successfully use it even if you're new to laminating. Plus, the machine has 6 rollers so everything will look great. However, keep in mind that the Proteus 125 is a bit more expensive than other Fellowes machines. But you might find that this machine is worth the extra cash. Give the Proteus 125 a try to decide if it's the right pouch laminator for your needs.
