The Fellowes Powershred 425i is a new strip-cut paper shredder that's been designed for frequent use in busy offices. We had a chance to check this shredder out. Here's what we discovered about its strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths:

The Powershred 425i is a great choice if you need a device that can handle a lot of paper at once. This machine can shred up to 38 sheets per pass and it has a continuous-duty motor so you can finish shredding in a hurry.
This machine has a 12-inch feed opening and it can handle items such as junk mail, credit cards, DVD's, and CD's. The waste bin can hold up to 30 gallons of shreds, so you will be able to shred quite a bit before it needs to be emptied.
The Powershred 425i has a jam-proof system that includes a paper overfeed indicator. If you try to exceed the machine's shredding capacity, the indicator will go red and you will need to cut down the amount you're trying to shred. After setting aside some sheets, you will be able to continue shredding.
This shredder is one of Fellowes' many SafeSense machines. These devices have the ability to detect when your hands are too close to the feed opening. When this happens, the shredder will stop running so you can safely remove your hands.
The Powershred 425i will go into sleep mode after it hasn't been used for a few minutes. This not only helps you save power, it prevents the motor from overheating and possibly burning out. Thanks to this feature, you should be able to get a lot of use out of this device.
Finally, this machine's cutters are covered by a lifetime warranty. The machine itself is covered for 2 years.

Weaknesses:

The Powershred 425i is a strip-cut machine so it won't give you quite as much security as a cross-cut shredder. The machine produces strips that are 0.25� wide, so it provides enough security for everyday shredding.
This shredder will make a bit of noise when it's running since it doesn't have SilentShred technology.
Finally, this machine is very large with approximate dimensions of 37� (height) x 22� (width) x 20� (depth). Due to its size, it's probably not the best choice for small work areas.
