Product Description

The New Akiles CoilMac ECI Plus is a new and improved version of the classic CoilMac ECI Manual Spiral Coil Binding Machine. This machine includes the solid construction, electric coil inserter and other great features that have made the Akiles Coilmac ECI binding machine famous. However, it provides a number of features that are simply not available on other comparable binding machines. The New CoilMac ECI-Plus offers oval punching holes to help make inserting coils easier than ever. It also includes fully disengageable punching pins to allow you to punch virtually any document length. The CoilMac Plus series of machines is the only line of manual coil binding machines to offer these options. Plus, the Coilmac-ECI-Plus offers a 0.248 pitch to help ensure that the holes aren't too close or too far away from the edge of the paper. Like the orginal CoilMac ECI, this system is easy to use, and will punch up to 17-sheets at a time utilizing the 4 to 1 coil punch die. The Electric Coil Inserter is activated by a foot-switch making coil insertion fast and easy. With the most complete system of functions and a built-in electric coil inserter, the Akiles CoilMac-ECI Plus is in a class all to itself. The Akiles CoilMac-ECI+ makes coil binding fast, easy and professional, making it the ideal partner for larger volume workloads. The CoilMac ECI is the most popular coil binding machine on the market. The CoilMac ECI+ coil binding machine is our number one recommended binding machine for spiral coil binding.

Welcome to MyBinding video. This is a look at the CoilMac ECI Plus, an oval-hole coil binding machine by Akiles. Sturdy, efficient, and easy to use, the ECI+ is a great binding system. Let's watch it in action.

Set the margin control knob so that all punches throughout your whole project will be consistent. Open as many of the disengageable die pins as you need to in order to assure there are no half holes within your project. And because of its open throat design, the ECI+ can handle almost any size document. The punch margin control knob allows you to select between two sizes, making your margins stronger or easier to use with larger projects. Pull down the lever arm and make your punch. Continue punching through the rest of the pages in your project, up to 17 sheets of 20lb paper per lift.

When you're all punched, it's time to organize and bind. All CoilMac machines come with a coil diameter selector. This is just a simple tool whereby you can judge the size of coil that you'll need for your project. One side you measure your project and get your reading. Set the other side, and select your coil according to that size. The oval holes cut by this machine make threading on the coil much easier. Once threaded, use the hand or foot pedal to engage the roller and slide the coil just along the spine. Finish your book off by crimping both ends with coil crimping pliers. And we have a how to video for this if you need it. That's it. That's the CoilMac ECI+ by Akiles. For more demos, reviews, and how to's on this product and many more, check out MyBinding.com.

Welcome to MyBinding video. This video is made to help you understand the difference between the regular and the plus models of the CoilMac line. Akiles makes four CoilMac machines, the M, ER, ECI, and EPI, and their corresponding Plus versions. Side by side, each model looks to be very similar. They have the same features but have two major differences. The first, the shape of the punch. On the regular models, that is the M, ER, ECI, and EPI, the holes that are punched are round and they are 4mm in diameter, punching four holes for every one inch. On all four of the corresponding Plus models, the holes that are punched are oval-shaped, 4mm wide and 5mm tall, also with a 4:1 pitch. The oval holes are more popular because they tend to work better with thicker documents and lay out more naturally along an 11-inch length. Also with oval holes, the beginning threading that you must do by hand is much easier. The second major difference is the disengaging punch dies. All Plus models have fully disengageable punch pins. This allows for a clean punch with virtually any document length and without fear of half holes punched. While all of the regular models have only five disengageable pins, which allows you to work with the most standard sized of documents. Those are the two major differences. Now you're on your way to choosing the right machine. For more comparisons, demos, reviews, and how to's, check out MyBinding.com.

The difference is oval holes tend to work better with thicker documents. Also, oval holes are easier to begin the threading process of the coil onto the spine. And those are the main differences.

Let's take a look at the similarities. Both machines punch at a 4:1 pitch and have a punching length of 13 inches. It is an open throat design so with some creativity, there's no limit on paper size. These machines allow you to punch up to 17 sheets of 20lb paper per lift. And the binding capacity with the electronic inserter is 7/8 inch. There is an adjustable depth of margin control knob. Hand or foot pedal engages the electric inserter, which is larger and much improved over the ER model. And finally, both of them come with a coil selecting tool. Now all you need to do is choose what's best for you. For more comparisons, demos, reviews, and how to's, check out MyBinding.com.

Akiles CoilMac ECI+ Coil Binding Machine Review

If you're looking for a coil binding machine, you should take a look at the Akiles CoilMac ECI+. Here's all you need to know about this machine.

Shere are the srengths:

  • The CoilMac ECI+ has a good punching capacity. It can punch up to 17 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper at a time so you'll be able to get the punching part of the process done rather quickly.
  • This device has a maximum punching length of 13 inches. While this isn't quite long enough for legal-sized documents, binding letter-sized (8.5" x 11") ones won't be any trouble at all. This machine is equipped with an open throat and a full set of disengageable dies so you can work with other sizes of documents.
  • The CoilMac ECI+ is compatible with 4:1 pitch spiral coils. This device punches oval holes that make it easier for the pages to be turned once your document is bound. The maximum binding capacity is 7/8" so you'll be able to bind some very thick documents.
  • Punching your pages right the first time is always a good thing and it's easy to do with this machine's margin depth control feature. Using this feature will help you create stronger documents with tear-resistant pages.
  • This machine has an electric coil inserter that makes it incredibly easy to bind your documents. It's operated by a foot pedal and works quickly so you can move on to other projects. There's also a coil selector guide so you can choose the right supplies.
  • Finally, the CoilMac ECI+ is very well-built and will no doubt stand up to years of use thanks to its metal construction. However, it does come with a one-year warranty just in case something does happen.

And now the weaknesses:

  • The Coil Mac ECI+ is a large device so it may not be suitable for smaller workspaces. Also, this isn't the most aesthetically pleasing machine around but this is one time when function should be placed about form.
  • This device's punching handle is located on the right side of the machine. This is fine for right-handed people, but left-handed users may wish the handle was in a different location.
  • Finally, the CoilMac ECI+ is only compatible with coil spines. You'll need to use a different device if you want to work with plastic combs and other binding elements.

Overall, the Akiles CoilMac is a great choice for anyone wanting to reaps the benefits of coil binding. It has a good punching capacity and you'll be surprised at how quickly it can bind your documents. The strengths of this device far outweigh the weaknesses, so considering getting one today.
