Welcome to MyBinding video. Let's have a look at the Akiles Megabind 1 Legal Size Plastic Comb Binding Machine. Step-by-step, this is how to bind a book on the Megabind 1.
Out of the box you'll realize you'll have to do some assembly; just the two handles. Remove the screws from the side and place one handle, the short in the back and the long in the front. Screw the bolts right back on. Use a flat head screw driver to tighten the bolts down. All set, both levers should work, good to go. Now let's make a book.
With your project materials in order, start with the covers. Turn them face down into the throat of the puncher. This is a standard sized document but the Megabind 1 can handle lengths up to 14 inches. Using the side margin control knob on the left, be sure that all papers are punched in the same fashion. The long handle makes the punch. Do likewise with the remaining pages of your project. The Megabind 1 is capable of punching 20 sheets of 20lb paper at one time.
When all is punched, you're ready for the binding. Order your papers and select the proper size comb. To assist in this process, you'll find on the face of the machine a scale. Simply slide your whole project into the scale to see the precise size comb you'll need. Our demonstration required a ¼ inch comb. Fit the comb into the teeth on the top of the machine. In comb binding, be sure to remember to always have the teeth faced up and the project faced down; that way the booklet does not fall apart when used. Back to the levers, you use the small one to open the teeth of the comb. Place the project face down over the teeth of the comb, lining everything up. Back up with the lever and the comb closes. And your project is finished. It's that simple with the Megabind 1 by Akiles. For more demos and reviews of this product and many more, check out MyBinding.com.

Welcome to MyBinding video. Let's have a look at the Akiles Megabind 1 Legal Size Plastic Comb Binding Machine. In review of the Megabind 1, we like it. It's a solid machine that does a great job. It's solid metal, weighs 31 pounds, and helps you both punch as well as bind with plastic combs. And it's loaded with features that make binding simpler.
One such feature is the binding guide. This allows the user to determine the correct comb size to use. Slide the whole project into the slot and read the measurement. Two features that go hand in hand are the side margin control and the die disengagement pins; both help in the consistency of punching. The side margin control allows you to lock the left margin so all your papers start in the same place. The disengagement pins allow you to determine where the punching will end, which allows for punching of papers of all sizes without partially punched holes.
As for the levers, they are strong and sturdy. The long one is used for punching holes, the small one for opening the teeth. As with all manual punchers, punch capacity depends on a few variables. The claim of punching 20 sheets of 20lb paper on a single lift may be a little inflated for most users; more like 12-15. The punching margin control knob provides the best depth margin for all comb sizes while maximizing the tear resistence of your document. And the continuous binding control knob prevents over-opening of combs, especially useful for multiple bindings of the same size document. There is minor assembly associated with the Megabind 1. The two handles need to be bolted on. You remove the bolts, you place on the handles, you screw the bolts back on, it's all set.
The Akiles Megabind 1 is an excellent choice for an organization that is looking for a highly reliable legal size plastic comb binding machine. It's built extremely well and has all the features that you would expect. For the price, the Megabind 1 is a great buy. However, for a few dollars more, the Megabind 2 works the same way but allows you to also bind with wire. Or if you have many documents or many large documents in your future, you may want to consider the electronic version, the Megabind 1e. Anyway you go with it, you've got a lot of great books in your future. For more demos and reviews of this product and many more, check out MyBinding.com.
Akiles Megabind 1 Plastic Comb Binding Machine Review
The Akiles Megabind 1 is another in a long line of high-quality, solidly-constructed binding machines by Akiles. This heavy-duty, all-metal legal sized plastic comb binding machine has a manual punch with a comb opener. This well-made machine was designed to be used as a complete plastic comb binding solution for medium-volume applications.
The Megabind 1 has many useful features, including a depth of punch margin control. This control allows you to make your own selection of punching options for the proximity of a hole to the edge of the document. This makes the Megabind 1 ideal for use with all sizes of plastic comb binding spines - from the thinnest, 3/16" diameter spine, up to the thickest up to 2"diameter spine.
In addition, the Megabind 1 also features 24 fully disengageable dies, which allows you to stop any hole from punching, and to easily handle virtually any document length up to 14". The Megabind 1 also has a 14" long plastic comb opener to help you open combs and insert pages on the combs up to 14 inches in length. This is quite handy when binding several books at once. With two handles, the Megabind 1 can punch with one handle and operate the comb-opener with the other. This is an excellent advantage over single-handled machines, which place undo stress on the machine by activating the comb opener during punching (or vice versa).
The machine's manual punch can punch through about 20 sheets of 20lb paper per lift, making it perfectly adequate for most small to medium sized companies and Includes a convenient and easy-to-use document sizing guide on the table of the machine, helping you select the right comb-size, no matter how simple or complex your project, or how large or small your document.
Among its many positive features, the Megabind 1 has a manual punching mechanism great for small to medium sized companies who bind documents on a weekly basis. There are, however, some limitations to the machine. For example; companies who bind documents often, or bind a high volume of documents might benefit from a machine with an electric punching mechanism. This could mean that the Megabind 1E, also made by Akiles is a better option for your higher-volume needs.
The Megabind 1 is a highly functional machine at a great value, but its next generation, the Megabind 2 includes a convenient and easy to use wire closer that can be used with spiral-o 19 loop wire. This feature makes the cost of the Megabind 2 slightly higher, but it provides you with the ability to use an entirely new binding style for an additional $75, making it hard to pass up.
Like other binders in the Akiles family, the Megabind 1 is extremely reliable, and built with all metal components. This heavy-duty construction is indicative of Akiles well-made line of binding equipment and the Megabind is no exception. The two handle design will extend the life of the machine, and allow for prolonged use, provided you don't punch things you shouldn't. For example, do not punch; more than 2 clear covers at a time, metal, wood, or any other heavy duty material that could damage the punching heads.
The Akiles Megabind 1 is an excellent choice for an organization that is looking for a highly reliable legal size plastic comb binding machine. It is built extremely well and has features that highly recommend it.
Potential buyers, however, may want to consider the Megabind 2, which provides the ability to bind documents with wire for just a few dollars more. Given this fact, the Megabind 2 may be the most cost effective choice, depending on your volume needs. Either way, both the Megabind 1 and the Megabind 2 are excellent machines, with built-in reliability. Niether of the machines would need replacement unless your future capacity needs increase, which may lead you to upgrading to an electric punch machine, which is much more suitable for large volume applications.
