So you want to know about some cool stuff.  Well, I’ve got 3 simple little items that I think will make your Finishing Department run a lot better.

The first item that I want to talk about is called the “Big Yellow Ruler”.  Well, I like this for, well, obvious reasons.  But most important, it has a none-skid surface on the back so that when you’re making cuts your ruler won’t slide on you or slip.  And, probably more important than that, is this edge-guard right here.  When you’re making cuts with an open blade-knife, this edge-guard here is going to protect your fingers from being cut.  And it’s an important rule:  Always practice sharp-safety.  Nobody wants to get cut.

The next item that I want to talk about is the “Dust Removal System”.  Now this is made by STI.  Now, we all know how bad small particles of dirt or dust can look trapped up underneath the over-laminate.  And it’s a good practice to use a tag rag to clean off the surface of the print before you over-laminate it; as well as cleaning off your boards before you mounted them.

Now with the “Dust Removal System”, using this tacky roller, I can clean off the surface of the print, and because this is such a wide roller, I can ensure that I don’t miss any areas.  You can take this test:  Clean your print off first with your tag rag and then you use your “Dust Removal System”.  Now here I’m going to transfer from the tacky roller any dust that I might have missed to this adhesive pad, and I’m sure you’ll see some particles of dust or dirt that you’ve missed.  Let’s face it, hey, at my age, some of that dirt and dust is getting a lot harder to see.

The last item that I want to talk about is made by Raytek.  Now this is an infrared thermometer.  And I use it for checking the surface temperature of my rollers.  All you have to do is aim the gun at the rollers, depress the trigger and you’ll get an instant read out here either in Fahrenheit or Centigrade of the actual surface temperature of your roller.  This can be very helpful for trouble-shooting.  Again, this is made by Raytek and this is the model of the range “ST” and is available from Grainger.

Now, if you’d like more information about these 3 products that I just talked about, check out our website at www.davidgaither.com and we’ll have lots of other cool stuff for you to help in the Finishing Department.
