This machine can fold and insert up to two sheets of paper and insert a return envelope into a a single envelope—not to mention that it can even finish the seal for you. It supports pages that are legal size or smaller.
We’ll start by insert our materials. The back paper tray is feeder #2. Insert your stack of pages and then adjust the edge guides to fit the sheets. When you are done, lock it in place. It works the same for feeder #1.
In the middle, you’ll insert your envelopes. There is a line telling you how high you can stack them. The orientation of the envelopes is important, and there is a diagram reminding you of the proper way. You can also adjust the edge guides to them.
Next insert your return envelopes in the back. Adjust the edge guides with this wheel on the side here. Then just put the stack in.
When you’re through with the setup, it will fold and insert the material into a single envelope. But first we have to go over the touchscreen that makes the process incredibly user friendly.
I first want to edit a job to show you the options available to you. There are a few sizes of envelopes to use—the specific type is important and you can call us to set up an order of envelopes as well.
Next, the display will ask if you want the machine to seal the envelopes for you. This alone is a huge feature not to be overlooked.
Then set the size paper you have inserted into feeder 1—again the maximum size is legal, but you can still do smaller custom sizes or none at all.
And you can set it if you want feed it by hand, or just a big batch.
Go through the same steps for feeder 2.
Next is our return envelope, I have a custom sized one I want to enter. Simply set the height and move on to the next step. Again, every step is made to be simple for the user.
Based on my selection the machine limits me to a letter fold—with the correct setup, the others would be made available.
Run a test to then see if everything worked. It will then proceed to ask you about the results to ensure that every aspect is perfect before you do a large batch.
When you are ready, hit the green button to run it continuously until a tray is emptied or you stop the machine.
It is important to note—as I stated earlier—that the type of envelope you use is important. We work with Formax and a envelope manufacturer who both know the correct envelopes you will need—call us to set up an order of envelopes or find out the specifications you need. Standard envelopes like this will not work in this machine.
It also has a clamshell design—meaning it easily opens up to access the internal components to either clear a jam or fix and replace a part. Even this part is made to be user friendly. There are several blue numbers next to specific pieces. Formax likes to say, “blue means you.” Meaning you can fairly safely touch all those pieces, like this liquid sealer tray. Pull it out and fill up the three compartments. Now technically you can even use water for this—but it generally doesn’t seal as well and it evaporates, but it is available when you’re panicking to get a job done.
And that is the 6102 Folder and Inserters by Formax!
Inserter Testing Instructions
INSERTER TESTING INSTRUCTIONS
For each individual job that you plan to run through the inserter please do the following: Hand fold and insert one perfect "example" of the job and write a nickname for it on the outside of the envelope. We'll attempt to duplicate the example you've created for us using the machine. Please also include (50) additional outer envelopes that go with that job so that we can get a really thorough testing. Repeat this for every different job you want tested, put them into a larger manila envelope or box, and finally include some form of identification like a business card or a copy of our electronic correspondence. Send it all to:

When will I get my results?
We typically have test results within 2-3 hours of your samples arriving. We'll then provide you the Scope of Work which lays out what you can expect when your jobs are run on the machine. You are not obligated to purchase just because we tested your samples, we frequently use the testing process as a way to select exactly which unit would be best for you. We do our best over the phone, but nothing compares to seeing samples and running them through a machine.
Why do you need to test samples? Don't you know what your machine can do?
Whitaker Brothers offers rock bottom pricing on inserters because we have zero returns on these machines. This is accomplished through this pre-sale scoping process. While we can get a pretty good idea of whether a unit will work for your application or not based on your description on the phone, the cost of return shipping on a mistake can exceed $500 so it's not worth taking a chance.
What benefit is there to sending samples up for testing?
Samples testing produces the scope of work you expect out of the inserter. It'll lay out every sample you sent us, our test results, and recommended changes to the mailing (if any are needed). That way before you purchase, and before it lands at your doorstep, you know exactly what the machine can and cannot do. This also allows us to pre-program folds into the machine making your learning curve much easier. Most importantly the scope protects you for incompatibility on any of the jobs you send us to test. If our scope said that a job will work, and when the machine arrives it doesn't work, we are on the hook to make things right.
I need this equipment immediately and cannot wait for the testing process!
While we always prefer to go through the presale process, sometimes time doesn't allow it. If you accept full responsibility for the compatibility of your jobs on the equipment and willingly forgo testing then we can ship immediately. You will not be able to return the product for any reason though. You may have to change your job, change your envelopes, or change the number of sheets you insert to make everything work. We're still responsible for the warranty, and we'll still give you all the assistance we possibly can. But skipping the testing phase puts all responsibility on the buyer.
