If you’re in the market for a speedy, low security shredder to share between multiple users, look no further.  The GBC Shredmaster GDS2219 offers a quick, convenient way to quickly destroy generic office documents you don’t want lying around.  This durable machine offers quiet use and simple operation with a warranty backing.  Here is a closer look at the details of the GDS2219.

Strengths:

• One free hand is all you need to use this machine.  Simply slide your items in and the machine does the work for you, turning the blades on and off as needed.  After two minutes of no use, the motor powers down to an energy conserving sleep mode to save electricity.  A backlit panel of icons keeps you updated on the machine’s status.
• GBC’s innovative Jam Free technology works by preventing jams before they occur.  Too much paper in the feed slot cuts power to the blades and turns the throat red.  Removing the excess will change the light back to green and allow you to continue shredding as normal.  In the case of an actual jam, clogged items are returned to the user by the automatic reverse function.

Weaknesses:

• Though the strips created are unreadable, they only provide a level 2 security rating.  This is adequate for generic office documents, such as memos and old work orders.  But any confidential information should go through a cross cut device, such as the GDX2019.
• This device weighs about 66 pounds when empty.  Though not significantly heavy, it will still be bulky and awkward to pick up and move around.  Thankfully, there are casters mounted on the bottom for easy mobility.  Most users don’t find this to be a problem.
