The GBC Shredmaster GLHS9 is an ideal system for medium to large departments needing a high security shredder.  Designed for use by ten or more people, this machine offers quick and convenient destruction of top secret and highly classified documents.  Automatic features provide simple operation while powerful blades render complete paperwork into tiny pieces impossible to reassemble.  Here is a closer look at the strengths and weaknesses of this machine.

Strengths:

• Ease of use is seen in the automated features, starting with the automatic on/off.  As items slide into the blades, they are detected and shred.  When the cutting shafts are empty, they are programmed to turn off.  In the case of a jam, the reverse function sends items back out to the user.  After a few minutes of inactivity, an environmentally friendly mode kicks in and shuts the motor down to an energy conserving mode.  Whatever the status of your machine, it is visually indicated on a lit display panel.
• An added benefit to the motor is the continuous run.  Unlike many smaller machines, this one doesn’t require frequent cool down periods to keep the motor from overheating.  You can shred as much as you want all day long.
• Up to nine sheets can feed into the nine inch opening, including stapled and paperclipped documents.  The blades can also take in credit cards, CDs, and DVDs.  Everything shreds at a rate of 16 feet per minute, excellent for a super micro cut shredder.
• The cross cutting mechanism swiftly changes entire documents into tiny particles only 1/32″ by 7/16″ in size.  These are small enough to provide a level five security rating, complying with Department of Defense standards for document destruction.  Even businesses needing the confidential disposal of top secret documents will be satisfied with this device.
• Paper confetti rains down into a massive 30 gallon shred bin.  A pull-out drawer simplifies the removal and replacement of the shred bags, which come in both paper and plastic.
• GBC is known for providing excellent warranties and this one is no different.  The machine is covered for two full years, which includes on-site service.  The blades carry a 20 year warranty.

Weaknesses:

• Nine sheets shred at 16 feet per minute isn’t all that impressive but is typical for high security shredders.  If you’re looking for a fast machine and don’t need this much security, the GLX3055 offers medium security and higher capacities.
• This machine isn’t equipped with Jam Free technology.  As long as you’re careful not to overfeed the blades, jams shouldn’t be too much of a problem for you.
• At 156 pounds, this is a heavy piece of equipment.  Lack of casters on the bottom will make it bulky and awkward to move around.  If you will need to move it often, we suggest storing it on a cart.  Otherwise a dolly can help with occasional moves.
