The Akiles Pro-Lam 230 has independent Heat and Motor Switches allowing the machine to be left on standby for hours without depreciating the motor while eliminating the warm-up time when you need to laminate again.     Lamination speed is always important. At 24 inches per minute, this machine can laminate a standard size document in about 30 seconds. The functional switches are very easy. A power on starts the machine and begins to heat the rollers, of which there are four silicone rollers for consistent heating. You control the temperature with the knob according to the pouch thickness you are using and the ProLam 230 can handle up to 10mil in thickness.

    There's a very handy and helpful chart affixed to the top of the machine to help you determine what is the best temperature for your pouch. There's a separate on/off switch for the motor to save on the life of the motor as well as energy. Simply click it on when the ready light is on.

    One significant weakness of the ProLam 230 is its size. The feed opening is only 9.1 inches wide, so it keeps it at standard size documents or lower. It does not require the use of a carrier, which is nice and makes things a little faster. However, a carrier always keeps a machine cleaner and lasting longer. As compact as it is, it's a pretty heavy machine because it's basically all metal, which means it will last a long time. If this size is all you need and you don't mind the industrial look, the ProLam 230 could be a great buy for you. And for under $300, it's hard to beat the quality.
