GBC's CombBind C20 Comb Binding Machine Review

GBC has been making some of the best plastic comb binding machines for years and they recently released a new product: the GBC CombBind C20. This is a state-of-the art comb machine that's of the highest quality and offers terrific binding and punching capacities. Here are five reasons why you need to check out this product.

1.)    You can bind long books with it. The C20 is a terrific device to have around if you need to bind long documents. It's capable of binding books that contain up to 320 pages. You can use combs that are up to 1.5” thick as well as oversized covers. That way, your documents can be as long as they need to be while still looking professional.

2.)    It offers vertical punching. This machine is equipped with a vertical punching mechanism. Since your pages will be upright when you process them, they'll be aligned properly so you'll only have to punch them once. Plus, you can punch up to 20 sheets of paper at once. This punching capacity is 20 to 30% higher than similar devices, so you'll be able to get your paper ready much faster. Also, you don't need to use much force to use the punch. This can increase your productivity.

3.)    It's easy to use. Operating a binding machine isn't particularly difficult, but it can be challenging if you've never done it before. Thankfully, the C20 has directions printed right on it so you'll be guided through the process from start to finish. There's also a comb selector to help you pick out the right supplies for your project. All together, this is one device that's extremely easy to use.

4.)    It offer comfortable operation. Whether you're right- or left-handed, the C20 offers a comfortable binding experience. The handle is D-shaped and is ergonomically friendly so everyone can used it without difficulty. Even if you have to punch and bind a lot of documents, you'll remain comfortable and joint pain shouldn't be an issue.

5.)    Great construction and a terrific warranty. The C20 is extremely durable so you'll be able to get years of use out of it. And it's backed by a limited one-year warranty from GBC so you'll be okay if you accidentally end up with a defective product. Plus, this product is pretty affordable so you'll be able to have a first-rate binding machine without wiping out your entire bank account.

As you can see from reading this list, there are five excellent reasons to check out the GBC C20 CombBind Comb Binding Machine. This product is perfect for processing longer documents and you can be sure that all of your pages will be punched properly. You can punch 20 sheets at a time, which is an excellent amount. The on-board instructions are incredibly helpful as is the comb selector. You won't get tired when preparing your documents with this well-built machine and the warranty is a nice touch. Overall, the C20 is a great product, so make sure you consider getting one for your office today.

Helpful Tips

How to Use the GBC CombBind C20

GBC makes easy-to-use comb binding machines to create good-looking documents without a lot of effort. One of the company’s newest machines, the CombBind C20, is one of their most user-friendly devices. This machine can bind documents that are up to 320 pages long and it features on-board instructions to make operation a cinch. That said, here are some useful tips to successfully use the CombBind C20:

  • Lift the lid of the device and make sure the punching handle is raised. Adjust the edge guide button depending on what size paper you’re using. This device can work with letter- and A4-sized paper, as well as oversized covers.

  • Start punching holes in your documents. The CombBind C20 has a vertical punching mechanism to ensure that the holes will be evenly centered. This device can punch up to 20 sheets at a time, so you’ll probably need to divide your document into smaller sections for punching. Don’t forget to punch holes in your covers as well. If you’re using plastic covers, don’t punch more than two at a time. Trying to punch more than two can weaken the punching dies over time.

  • After your paper has been punched, you need to choose a comb for your document. The CombBind C20 has a color-coded comb selector to help you out. This machine works with combs that are up to 1.5” in diameter. You can store extra ones in the device’s comb storage tray.

  • Place the comb in the comb opener area. The comb should line up next to the white arrow and should be placed behind the machine’s metal teeth. Then open the comb by pulling the lever on the right side of the device. Don’t open the comb too far as it makes it difficult to finish the binding process.

  • Once the comb has been opened, you can begin binding your document. Insert the comb’s fingers through the holes in your paper. As with punching, splitting the paper into smaller sections is sometimes necessary. It makes binding much easier. When you’re done, close the comb.

  • When you’re done binding, you should empty the chip tray. If the chip tray gets too full, the paper bits can begin to dull the punching dies. It also makes it more difficult to punch your documents. After the chip tray has been emptied, close the machine’s lid and lower the punching handle for easy storage.

The device also has on-board instructions that can come in handy if you get a little bit confused as you’re preparing your documents. Make sure to do a few practice runs with this device so you can get good results when an important project comes up.

Questions & Answers
Q:
It seem the vertical punching mechanisim is not as sharp as it use to be and the cut is not clean. Does this need to be sharpened or replaced?
Asked by Vivienne Penaflor 4 months ago
A:
Thank you for your question. If the punching is less clean than before that is a good indicator that the dies are starting to wear. Generally speaking dies/pins on a binding machine are not able to be sharpened. We contacted GBC and unfortunately they do not stock any replacement parts at all for the C20 CombBind Binding Machine.

Q:
The little gray handle on the side of my machine broke off, can I get a replacement handle sent to me?
Asked by Jacob 11 months ago
A:
We don't stock parts but if you give us a call at 1-800-944-4573 we can work with you and help get a part ordered directly from the manufacturer.
