The contents of the 525 DIY Mat Cutting kit is a 24” aluminum rail with a rubberized base, a scaled edge, and a raised edge. Also included is a 3 depth position mat knife, a push style bevel cutting head with retractable blade, start and stop indicator, and nylon guides that allow it to hook onto the side of the rail. Also included is a sheet of decorative rub on transfers, a basic mat cutting book, 10 pieces of practice mat board, and extra blades. To install the blade onto the 500 mat knife, first remove the blade knob and the blade cover. Install one Logan 270 blade sharp side down onto the mat knife and replace the blade cover then replace the blade knob. To install the blade into the push style bevel cutter, first remove the blade holding knob and install one Logan 270 blade sharp side down onto the blade holder and into the blade slot, then replace the blade holding knob. To adjust the blade depth on the bevel cutter, find the blade depth adjustment screw on the bottom of the cutting head. Using a screwdriver, turning the screw clockwise will decrease the blade depth, counterclockwise will increase the blade depth. Have the blade so it barely passes through the thickness of the mat board and only scores into the slip sheet. To downsize a piece of mat board using the DIY kit, first always use a slip sheet. Use the ruler side of the straight edge to mark out lines where the downsize cut is to appear. Using the opposite side of the straight edge, connect the lines. Adjust the blade depth on the mat knife to the standard thickness setting. And using the rounded shape of the blade cover, ride it on top of the aluminum guide rail and at a 45 degree angle, pull straight back to make your downsize cut. To bevel cut an opening using the 525 DIY mat cutting kit, first always use a slip sheet. Place the mat blank to be cut color side down and using the ruler side of the straight edge, mark out the boarders on the back of the mat. Use the opposite side of the straight edge to connect the lines. Repeat this boarder marking process on the remaining three sides. You may find it helpful to tape the slip sheet in place while bevel cutting. You may find it helpful to also mark an in the middle of the opening. This reminds you what side of the lines the cutting head needs to ride on. Hook the bevel cutter onto the rail and align the start and stop indicator with the pencil line. Insert the blade and cut from line to line. Make sure that you always retract the blade after each cut. Repeat this process on the remaining three sides. After the fourth cut, you will have a perfectly beveled mat. To apply the decorative rub on transfers, use the grid pattern on the rub on sheet to locate where each design is to appear. Use a blunt object like a varnishing bone to transfer the design onto the mat board.
