Welcome to MyBinding video. This is everything you need to know about spiral coil. First, there are sizes ranging from a 6mm diameter all the way to 50mm. The smallest size can hold up to 30 pages and the largest can hold up to 444. A great benefit to spiral coil is that the pages lay flat. Better yet, they fold nicely back to back and the choices of color is one of the largest in any type of binding. Standard size coil has a 4:1 pitch, which is compliant with its respected hole punches. The standard length of each coil is 12 inches. Coil should always be longer than the pages you're binding. There are also custom lengths up to 36 inches. With the extra length on each end, you finish off your book with special wire cutting crimpers. Once you're done, you'll have yourself a spiral coil bound book. For more demos, reviews and how-to's, go to MyBinding.com.

Thank you for your question. To crimp and trim the standard plastic binding coils you would want to use a pair of Crimping Pliers. You can find our section of Crimping Pliers here .

Thank you for your question. It would depend on what pitch the Cinch punches. These are a 4:1 coil ( 4 holes per inch). If the cinch punches a 3:1 pitch hole pattern you are able to order custom cut coils here . If the Cinch punches a 2:1 hole pattern unfortunately there is not a plastic coil available that matches a 2:1 pitch.

Thank you for this excellent question. The spiral coils will work with a menu. However, to endure the daily abuse we do offer a thicker filament for the coils. .70, .83 and .93. These are not listed on our website, so please call In and let us know what you are looking for and we will be happy to assist you. 1-800-944-4573

The size of the coil is the inside diameter of the coil. For smaller coils it can be a bit tricky to measure by if you take your ruler you should be able to measure straight across from the inside to the inside of the spiral. Coil is measured in millimeters so make sure you have a metric ruler for your measurement.

Most people who bind documents with these spines use a pair of Coil Crimping Pliers to crimp the ends of the coil and to bend the end over. If you don't have a pair you can use needle nosed pliers but the process will take quite a bit longer.

The best way to determine the diameter of coil that you are going to need is to take a book including covers assembled and measure its thickness in millimeters. Add 2mm for smaller diameters and 4 for larger diameters and you should know your size. Just be sure to round up if in doubt. It is way easier to use a slightly larger coil than one that is too small.

That just refers to the spacing of the holes in your punched pattern. These coils are designed for documents that are punched with a standard coil binding machine that produces 43 or 44 holes on an eleven inch document. Most of the machines that we carry fall into that category. You can also use these spines if you have a 6mm punch which is the European equivalent to 4:1 pitch.

Premium coils are simply made by a premium brand such as GBC or Fellowes. They aren't actually premium in quality. Do yourself a favor and buy the less expensive MyBinding branded coils which are actually made in the USA out of higher quality materials.

Most of our customers order 4:1 pitch coil which is probably what you are referring to as standard. However, we also offer coils in 3:1, 2.5:1, 5:1 and 6mm pitches. If you need a specialty pitch it will take an extra day or two for us to make the coil but all of the different colors are available.
