DryLam Tiko 9" Pouch Laminator Review

Have you been looking for a good laminator that can easily fit on your desktop? If so, you'll want to check out the compact Tiko Laminator from DryLam. This is a very small device that can fit alongside your computer, printer, and other office machines while providing you with high-quality lamination. Why don't we take a look at what this machine has to offer, as well as learn about what could be improved.

Strengths:

  • The Tiko has a 9-inch feed opening. It's able to accommodate small items (i.e. business cards and name badges) as well as documents that are letter- and legal-sized (8.5 x" and 8.5" x 14"0).

  • You can use pouches that are up to 5 mil thick with this device. Five mil is a good thickness for common documents such as signs, instructions, and so on.

  • This laminator has two rollers so you can be confident everything you laminate will look great. You're unlikely to see bubbles, burns, or other imperfections on your documents.

  • If you ever misfeed an item and it gets stuck, the Tiko has a roller release feature you can use. The roller release will enable you to remove your document so you can continue laminating.

  • The Tiko can be used without a carrier, if you wish. However, you should know that using a carrier is recommended because it will keep your machine from getting gummed up with laminate.

  • This is one of the most compact laminators you can buy. With dimensions of 14-5/16" (width) x 6 9/16" (depth) x 4 11/16"(height), it won't take up much room so you can still have ample workspace on your desk. Plus, it only weighs 4 pounds so moving it will be really easy.

  • The Tiki is very affordable (it can be had for less than $100.00) and its warranty lasts for one year.

Weaknesses:

  • This laminator takes about 5 minutes to warm up. Therefore, you may want to turn it on ahead of time before using it so you don't need to wait for it to be ready. A light will go on when the machine is ready to laminate.

  • The Tiko lacks a cold lamination setting so you'll need to be careful when selecting which documents to process. Heat can damage old documents, photographs, and inkjet printouts so you'll want to use a cold laminator for those items.

All in all, the DryLam Tiko is a pretty terrific little laminator. It's a very basic machine, but it does the job well and it has some nice features. One of them is the roller release function (because dealing with jammed pouches can be frustrating) and another is the two-roller construction. You'll be very pleased with how your documents turn out when you use this device and, best of all, you won't need to spend a fortune to get professional-looking results. While it would be nice if the Tiko warmed up faster and had a cold setting, it nonetheless is a great choice if you need a good, basic laminator.
