Welcome to MyBinding video. This is a product review of the Fellowes PowerShred P-40 Personal Strip-Cut Paper Shredder. If you're looking for a personal quality paper shredder that does a great job at a low price, the P-40 just may be your ticket. We like just how simple and safe it is; a simple power on switch. We really appreciated the safety lock on top. You press the black button and it opens or closes; and forward and reverse are done by a single knob. The machine can be operated with one-handed ease, which we really appreciated. The P-40 is able to handle credit cards, glues, staples, paperclips, and up to eight sheets at a time with no problem. The shred speed is 11 feet per minute, which is pretty fast for a personalized shredder. And eight sheets at a time gives you about 85 sheets per minute. The reverse feature seems to work flawlessly and with a quick response time. So taking care of jams will be an easy thing to do. The paper entry width is nine inches wide and the shred strips are a quarter inch in width. The waste bucket below where the shreds end up is a 3.7 gallon bin. This can hold a lot of waste, however the long single strips do take up a lot of volume and need to be repacked from time to time. If this is the type of shred that you need and nothing more criss cross, the P-40 could be a great choice for you. And the MyBinding price point is just around $60. The operation knob slips left for forward and right for reverse. Credit cards, glue, staples, and paperclips can all be shred. The P-40 can handle up to eight sheets of standard sized paper at a time. Should you need to stop a shred in process, you do so with the knob on top. Sliding the knob all the way to the right allows you to reverse the motor, bringing the paper back up to remove for jams. And back to the left again brings everything back down to the trash bin. It really is as simple as that with the P-40 Fellowes Personal Shredder. Always be sure to lock the machine when not in use for safety reasons. And the waste bin is located below the lid and easily out. For more demos and reviews of this product and many more, check out MyBinding.com.

Fellowes PowerShred P-40 Paper Shredder Review

There are so many paper shredders for use in the home that selecting the right one can be a little bit challenging. If you are in this position yourself, you should take at look at Fellowes’ terrific PowerShred P-40. Here is what is great about this machine, as well as a couple of caveats to think about.

What’s great:

  • The P-40 can run continuously for up to 7 minutes. It is able to shred up to eight sheets per pass, including paper that still has staples in it. It also has the ability to shred credit cards so you won’t have to cut them up with scissors and run the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.
  • This machine’s feed opening is 9 inches wide. You will be able to shred both letter- and legal-sized paper with it. There’s a sheet capacity indicator that will alert you if you are trying to shred too many sheets at a time. This can help you shred the right amount of paper so you’ll avoid a jam.
  • This shredder is small and has dimensions of 14.75″ (height) x 14.25″ (width) x 9.5″ (depth). It can be stored just about anywhere so you can put it away when not in use. That way, you won’t have it cluttering up your home.
  • For such a small device, the P-40 has a pretty big waste bin. It can store almost 4 gallons of shreds before it needs to be emptied. To empty the machine, just lift up the head and dump your shreds either in the garbage or a recycling bin.
  • The P-40 is a strip-cut shredder that will produce shreds that are 1/4″, which is adequate for everyday shredding needs.
  • This machine will start shredding automatically when you stick paper into it. When the shredding is complete, the device will shut down on its own. It also has a reverse mode that allows you to remove paper if a jam occurs. There’s also a safety slide that can help prevent unauthorized use.
  • This product comes with a great warranty: the cutting head is covered for up to three years. The P-40 is also affordable and will probably cost you less than $100.00.

A couple of quick caveats:

  • Although the P-40 can shred for up to 7 minutes, you’ll need to let it take a 20-minute break before you resume using it.
  • This isn’t the quietest shredder on the market. It has a 70 decibel rating, so it is about as loud as a vacuum cleaner.
  • The P-40 doesn’t have any self-oiling technology, so you’ll have to oil the device yourself. Luckily, this is easy to do and it doesn’t take very long.

Conclusion:

The Fellowes PowerShred P-40 paper shredder is the one to get if you need a paper shredder for home use. It is inexpensive, can handle more than just paper, and it is great that it has a sheet capacity indicator which is a feature usually found on more expensive devices. And, best of all, it’s from Fellowes, one of the best shredder manufacturers around. If you’re in the market for a shredder, be sure to consider getting the P-40.
