Fellowes PowerShred PS-60 Strip-Cut Paper Shredder Review
The Fellowes PowerShred PS-60 strip-cut paper shredder is one of the company’s most basic products, but it’s still has a lot to offer. This compact device can give you a good amount of security while offering easy operation. Lets take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the PS-60 so you can decide if it’s right for you.
The strengths:
- This machine has a 9-inch throat so you’ll be able to shred a lot of different documents, even those printed on legal-sized paper (8.5″ x 14″). Up to 12 sheets can be shredded at once, even if they still contain staples or paper clips. It is possible for this device to shred as many as 130 sheets in just one minute.
- In addition to paper, the PS-60 can shred credit cards, CD’s, and DVD’s. This is a strip-cut shredder and it will transform all of your unwanted items into 7/32″ shreds. This means all of your documentation and private information will be safe.
- The PS-60’s waste bin is big enough to store up to 6 gallons of shreds. There’s a window in the bin so you can see how full it’s getting. Emptying the bin is really easy because you can simply detach the shredder’s head from the bin and then throw out or recycle the shreds.
- This shredder is equipped with a sheet capacity indicator that will let you know if there are too many sheets in the throat. This gives you the opportunity to remove some sheets and thus, avoid a paper jam. If you do get a paper jam, a reverse mode can help you clear it up.
- The PS-60 is nice and compact with the following dimensions: 18″ (height) x 14.5″ (width) x 11.75″ (depth).
- This machine is affordably priced, so it’d be great for people who need a shredder for personal use. The cutting mechanism has a five-year warranty.
And the weaknesses:
- The PS-60 can only run continuously for 10 minutes. It will then need a resting period of 20 minutes.
- All of your shreds – both paper and plastic – will be mixed in the wastebasket. This will definitely make recycling a bit difficult.
- With decibel rating of 70, this isn’t the most quiet shredder on the market. However, unless you plan on working with this machine in a shared workspace, the noise shouldn’t be much of a problem.
- Even though this machine only weighs about 18 pounds, it would have been nice if it had been outfitted with casters.
Conclusion:
Even though the Fellowes PowerShred PS-60 can only run continuously for 10 minutes and that it’s not particularly quiet, it is nonetheless a good choice if your need a personal-sized paper shredder. Its strengths – including its shredding capability and compact size – far outweigh its weaknesses. This is a great shredder for use at home and it could even be used at the office if it fits your shredding needs. If you think this is the right shredder for you, take a look at it today so you can begin shredding with it soon!
