Generally speaking, paper shredder oils are fairly interchangeable but there are some manufacture differences. The Powershred 12oz is build for your low security home or small office shredder. Whether you buy it in large or small quantities, if you have a high security shredder, you?ll want to get high security shredder oil. We do recommend that you use your shredder?s brand oil. Whether you do it by hand or it?s in a built-in dispenser right on your machine. If you?re lubricating by hand, here?s a couple methods. Remove the cap and snip off the top so the oil can flow freely. You?ll want to run the shredder in reverse as you add a small amount of oil right through the paper throat. Once you?ve gone the entire length of the throat a couple of times, hold down the reverse button for 20 seconds allowing the gears and teeth to get fully coated, and then run a sheet or two through. A second method is to pour some oil onto a sheet and then shred the sheet. Again, it?s best to run your machine then in reverse for a few seconds allowing the gears to get fully lubricated.
