Installing the 64” Proteus Workbench. You should have two boxes. Your Proteus Workbench will include: legs, install CD and box of parts. Parts include: spacer, leg end cups, Allen key, grub screws, joining brackets, worktop clip and screws. Proteus also includes: length and width beams. Putting together the legs. Put a grub screw backwards into each joining bracket. Insert a joining bracket onto the top of the leg. Make sure the spacer is flush to the top of the leg. Tighten the joining bracket to the leg. Table is being constructed with beams at the top and bottom. You can build your table to your preference. Next, attach the joining bracket to the bottom of the leg. Measure the brackets at the bottom to keep them at the same height. Measurement will be based on your preference. Tighten the joining bracket. For the corner legs, make sure the joining brackets are attached so the flat side faces each other. Measure and tighten. Attach the bracket with the space flush to the top again. After joining brackets are installed, attach the leg caps. The corner leg is finished. Repeat for additional three corner legs. Repeat the same steps for the middle legs, except add an additional side with joining brackets. Flat sides of the joining brackets should face up to join the legs. The middle legs: the middle joining bracket’s flat side can face either direction. Make sure the middle bracket is facing the same direction as the top bracket. Repeat for the remaining middle legs. (The number of middle legs varies depending on the bench size). Building the end frames. Insert grub screws into the flat side of the joining brackets. Insert two 45” long beams on each of the joining brackets to form the end frame. The grooved side should be on top. Tighten the grub screws to lock in the beams. Attach another corner leg assembly to create the end frame. Repeat for the other end frame. Install the 45” long beams to one of the middle leg assemblies on the middle joining brackets. Attach the legs to the other middle leg assembly. For benches that require additional middle frames, repeat steps. Joining the frames. With the remaining beams, attach them to the joining brackets. Make sure all grub screws are tightened down. Place the middle frame over the beams and tighten the grub screws. Attach remaining beams to the end frame. Attach the beams to the middle frame. Tighten remaining grub screws. When installed properly, the bench should not have excessive flex or feel loose at the connections. Mounting the worktop. ¾” MDF board cut to the size of the table is recommended. (We used ½” corrugated plastic). Underneath, screw in the worktop clips to hold the worktop in place. Finished Proteus Workbench with customer supplied top.
