GBC Shredmaster 7550X Cross Cut Commercial Shredder Review
At the top of GBC's commercial line of shredders is the Shredmaster 7550X Cross Cut Commercial Shredder. This workhorse boasts of a powerful, continuous motor as well as solid steel blades to quickly tear through any unwanted documents. In addition, it's very easy to use because of all the automated features. Let's take a closer look at the 7550X.
Strengths:

Automatic functions are what make this machine so simple to operate. Simply slide your items into the machine and the blades shred them automatically. If a paper jam occurs, the cutting shafts stop and then reverse the overfed materials back out to the user, clearing the jam for you. A full shred bag or open cabinet door will also trigger the auto off function. Current operational status is displayed on a lit panel to keep the user informed.

The robust motor is thermally protected from overheating. As a result, the engine can handle continuous operation without requiring cool down periods. In the office, this translates to not needing to wait for the machine to cool down after a period of heavy shredding. Conveniently, this allows all day shredding by multiple users.

Most shredders need regular oiling to stay in top working condition. This particular model comes with a built-in automatic oil injection system for as needed lubrication. Your shredder will work better and last longer while you can worry less about maintenance.

As many as 32 sheets of stapled and paperclipped paper can enter through the wide 16 inch feed at once. The deep funneled throat helps to ensure proper feeding of even disorganized stacks and oversized items. Papers and credit cards are shred as fast as 30 feet per minute, leaving only small bits 3/16" by 1-1/2" in size. These small particles earn a low level 2 security rating and fall into a massive 58 gallon shred bin.

The solid, one piece cutters are covered under a limited lifetime warranty. The rest of the shredder carries a three year warranty on parts and labor and includes on-site service.

The small pieces created only offer a level 2 security. This level is completely safe for the disposal of unwanted documents and old work orders, as well as other generic office shredding. But any confidential items should go through a cross cut shredder with at least a level three rating. We recommend the GBC GLX3055.

This device isn't rated to shred CDs or DVDs. For many offices, this may not even be a problem. Businesses looking for this specific capability should check out the 7500S.

As with many large pieces of office machinery, this one is quite heavy. The casters on the bottom make it easier to move around if needed and we don't think this will be much of a problem for most users.
As evidenced by the many strengths, the GBC Shredmaster 7550X is well-suited to handle the high volume shredding needs of any large office. With a powerful, continuous duty motor and sturdy blades, this device is able to withstand the vigorous shredding needed by multiple departments. Twenty or more users could easily share this machine without a problem. The 7550X is an excellent choice for your next office floor or departmental shredder.
