Many departments have found that a single, central shredder is more cost-effective than multiple individual shredders. For this purpose, the GBC Shredmaster GLX3055 is a great option. Designed for use in high volume departments, the heavy duty construction can withstand long-term, high volume shredding. Let's take a closer look.

Strengths:

• Simple operation is given in the many automatic features. The automated on/off senses papers in the feed and shreds on cue, stopping when finished. After a two minute period of no activity, the machine slows down to a power save mode in order to save electricity. A row of backlit icons offers simple push button control and displays operational status.

• JamStopper technology works to prevent jams before they happen. Users are immediately alerted to an overfeed before the blades get clogged. Once the excess items are removed, the machine starts back up and shreds as usual. If a jam does happen, the auto reverse clears the blades by feeding the items back out to the user.

• The continuous duty motor saves you time by allowing all-day use instead of needing frequent cool down periods. It is also rated at 10 decibels less than its competitors, providing a hushed shredding experience.

• An extra wide 16 inch entry easily accommodates oversized paper and disorganized stacks. Up to 30 sheets can go through at once, including staples, paperclips, credit cards, and CDs. Items are devoured as fast as 20 feet per minute, quickly destroying any private information.

• The cross cutting mechanism creates tiny particles that earn a level three security rating. Most confidential office material stays safe at this level, including employee records, personal data, and business information.

• Paper confetti is deposited into a spacious 55 gallon waste container. The bin is housed in a pull out drawer for simple removal and replacement of the shred bag.

• The self-cleaning mechanism on the blades works to prolong the life of your shredder. The cutters actually carry a lifetime warranty provided by GBC. The rest of the device has a two year warranty, which includes on-site service.

Weaknesses:

• The small pieces created only provide a level three security rating. This is completely adequate for most offices. But businesses needing the secure disposal of highly classified material will want a high security machine.

• Weighing over 100 pounds, this is a heavy piece of office equipment to move around. However, casters on the bottom provide easy mobility and we don't think most users will have a problem with this.

• One thing that would be nice on this machine is segregated waste compartments for paper and plastic waste, allowing the simple recycling of the paper. This may or may not be a concern for you. If it is, we recommend checking out the MBM Destroyit 2270, though it is smaller than this shredder.

As evidenced by the many strengths, the GLX3055 is an excellent shredder for any office. Equipped with automatic features and decent capacities, this device can stand up to the rigorous use needed in high traffic areas. Any business needing a machine for use by ten or more people will appreciate convenience and efficiency of this device.
