Intimus S14.87 3.8mm Industrial Shredder Baler System Review
The Intimus S14.87 Industrial Shredder Baler System simplifies the disposal of high volume shredding. Designed for a central location in a heavy shredding industry, this machine offers a data shredder combined with a baler for immediate compaction of the shredded remains. Bales are released with the touch of a button, ready to be tossed into the recycling receptacle. Besides convenience, the S14.87 offers easy use and high efficiency. Let’s take a closer look.
Strengths:
- This machine is simple to use. Two power switches control the device. The first is a locking master switch for on/off functions. The second uses a multifunction button with options for Off, Forward, and Reverse. Off is activated automatically if the bin is opened or if the baler is full. A full baler also triggers an audible warning to prevent accidental overloading. A lit display shows the status of the shredder, whether the power is on, there is a paper jam, or if the bin door is open. If a paper jam starts to occur, the automatic anti-jam function kicks in to reverse the overfed items back out to the user.
- The entire device is run by a powerful, maintenance free motor. Designed for continuous run, the engine doesn’t require the cool down periods needed by small shredders. For further protection against overheating, the motor utilizes a thermo-sensor.
- A convenient conveyor belt feed system slides items into the wide 17 inch opening. An optional feed table expander offers added workspace. The blades take in up to 110 sheets at once and shred them as fast as 39 feet per minute. You can be sure even the largest of shredding stacks will quickly disappear into the cutting cylinders.
- The baler offers a convenient way to dispose of large quantities of remnants. The baler acts to reduce scrap volume by up to 70 percent. You can use bag or strap bales, depending on your preference. Full bales are ejected by a simple push button. A locking door on the top allows the addition of non-shredded waste.
Weaknesses:
- Between the shredder and the baler, this is a very heavy machine. Fortunately, there are casters on the bottom, two fixed and two locking, to add mobility. The narrow design allows the shredder to fit through standard width doors. Between these two features, we don’t think the size will present much of a problem for most users, though it will still be heavy to push around.
- The 1/8 inch strips only provide a level 2 security rating. The unreadable slices are fine for generic office shredding, especially since it is immediately compacted. However, businesses with confidential information to dispose of may prefer the higher security, cross cut version of this machine.
The Intimus S14.87 is well suited to accommodate the high volume shredding needs of any industry. Items are swiftly shred, then immediately compressed for quick disposal. Automatic features make this machine easy to use. And the combined baler reduces waste volume while adding convenience.
