Fastback P31 Keyboard Error Messages

One of the great things about the Fastback PowisPrinter is that it has an LCD display on the keyboard included with the printer. This LCD allows you to choose all sorts of options and makes the printer capable of producing printed titles without the need for a computer.

However, the LCD also serves as a message board that tells operators when there are problems with the printer. This article will list the different Error messages that are commonly displayed on the PowisPrinter LCD and will provide you with a quick explanation of their meaning.

Error #1: Please Remove Strip From Feed Entry
This error is usually caused by a chute jam. Your strip may have been loaded incorrectly or might have become skewed as it entered the feed chute. Remove your strip, check the chute and try again.

Error #2: Strip Loading Error – Please Remove the Strip and Try Again
This error has the same meaning as error #1. Remove the strip, check the feed chute for a potential jam and try feeding the strip again.

Error #3: Cartridge Empty – Please Insert A New One
This error simply means that you need to insert a new foil cartridge into the printer in order to continue.

Error #4: Strip Too Short – Minimum Strip Length is 8.25 Inches
If you are trying to print a strip that has been cut down to a length shorter than 8.25 inches the machine will not work. Use a longer strip and then cut it afterwards if necessary. If you get this error when printing a strip longer than 8.25 inches long you will most likely need a service call to replace a damaged sensor.

Error #5: Strip Too Long – Maximum Strip Length is 14.0 Inches
This error can occur if you attempt to print a 14-7/8″ long strip. If you get this error when you are printing a strip less than 14 inches long you will most likely need a service call to replace a damaged sensor.

Error #6: Wrong Strip Width
This message is simply telling you that you are inserting the wrong strip width into the machine. When designing your strip you can tell the PowisPrinter the number of pages, thickness in inches or thickness in mm. The PowisPrinter will choose the correct size of strip according to these settings. If you want to use another strip size you will need to change this setting in your strip design.

Error #7: Hatch Open – Remove the Strip before Closing
This message is usually telling you that there is a hatch jam that needs to be fixed before you can proceed with the printing. Open the hatch, fix the jam and try printing again.

Error #8: Strip Jammed: Open Hatch and Remove
This error message has the same meaning as error #7. Remove the jammed strip and try printing again.

Error #9: Cartridge Door Open – Close Door to Resume
This means that the side door on the unit is open or not completely latched. Close the door and you should be able to proceed.

Error #10: Operation Printhead Is Too Hot – Wait 5 Minutes
This error can occur after prolonged printing with the PowisPrinter. You will need to wait for the printhead to cool down before proceeding. Maybe it is time for a coffee break.

Can I use wire with my comb binding machine?
Krish Technologies posted this on Feb 3, 2016

< Over the years, a number of customers have asked me whether they can use twin loop wire with their plastic comb binding machine. These customers often don’t want to have to buy a brand new machine but like the look and feel of twin loop wire binding. However, the answer to their question isn’t as simple as it seems. You see, they actually do make twin loop wire that is designed to work with the plastic comb binding hole pattern. With that said, if you want to use these wires you are going to need a way to close the wires. What is Spiral-O Wire? Let me explain a little bit more…There is a product that we carry called Spiral-O Wire. This wire has 19 loops and is designed to work with the hole pattern from a plastic comb binding machine. Spiral-O Wire is sometimes called Wire Combs or Ibico Wire and was originally designed for use with some of the older Ibico binding machines. A number of the older Ibico plastic comb binding machines also included a twin loop wire closer on the front of them to allow users to use both plastic combs and wire. This 19 loop wire was designed for this purpose. What Equipment is Needed? As the Ibico brand has been phased out by GBC and all of the older Ibico plastic binding machines have been replaced with new models, they no longer have the twin loop wire closer on the front of them. This presents a problem in trying to use these spiral-o wires since you can’t use the wires without a way to close them. One of the only options left is to purchase a Twin Loop wire closer. However, since twin loop wire closers are not incredibly cheap this option usually only appeals to users who have larger electric plastic comb binding machines. Otherwise, it is often advisable to simply buy a low end 3:1 pitch twin loop wire binding machine (the supplies are cheaper). This being said, if you have one of the older Ibico binding machines that has a wire closer included you are in luck. The Spiral-O binding supplies that we carry will work perfectly with your machine and you will be able to use both plastic combs and wire depending on your needs. These Spiral-O binding supplies are available in Black, Silver, White, Blue and Red and in sizes up to 1″ in diameter. If you aren’t sure what type of wire binding supplies that you need to work with your machine simply give us a call. Our trained sales representatives will be glad to help you find the correct supplies for use with your machine.(Read More)
