Lassco Wizer Spinnit HL-3 Three Spindle Hydraulic Paper Drill Review

Lassco Wizer makes some great paper handling devices including their Spinnit HL-3 Three Spindle Hydraulic Paper Drill. This is a great device to have around if you need to hole-punch a lot of paper. Why don’t we take a look at its strengths and weaknesses to see if it’s right for you.

Strengths:

  • The Spinnit HL-3 has a great drilling capacity. It has the ability to process up to 2.5 inches of paper at once. In other words, it can drill through more than 500 sheets at a time. Using this device will allow you to work with a lot of paper at once and it’s much faster than using a traditional hole punch.
  • This machine has a one-horsepower hydraulic lift that’s controlled by a foot pedal. The lift is very powerful and its speed can be adjusted if you want. (It can perform up to 20 strokes per minute.) Using a hydraulic drill is much faster than using a manual one, so you’ll be able to finish your task pretty quickly.
  • The Spinnit HL-3 is a three spindle machine so it’s totally capable of producing the standard three-hole pattern. Using a device with three spindles is preferable to a machine that only has one because all the holes can be drilled at once.
  • Being able to control the placement of the holes is very important. Luckily, the Spinnit HL-3 has an adjustable backgauge so you can position the spindles in just the right place. The drill depth can also be tweaked so the holes will be the right distance away from the edge of the sheet.
  • This device has a table that measures 17” x 32”. Since the table is so big you’ll be able to work with large pieces of paper as well as smaller ones, such as letter-sized sheets (8.5” x 11”).
  • The Spinnit HL-3 comes with a one-year warranty so you can get it repaired or replaced if the device proves to be defective.

Weaknesses:

  • The Spinnit HL-3 is a floor model unit that’s pretty large. Its dimensions are 36” (height) x 56” (height) x 31” (depth) and it weighs 510 pounds. (Its footprint is 17” x 32”.) Due to its size, it would be a better fit for print shops and other production environments rather than an office. Also, the device needs to be shipped on a truck and this shipping method can be pricey.

The Lassco Wizer Spinnit HL-3 is one of the company’s best three spindle drills and it’s perfect for binderies, print shops, and so on. This is a powerful machine thanks to the one-horsepower hydraulic lift and it will enable you to quickly process a lot of paper. Since it’s a three spindle machine, you can punch all the holes at once which is very convenient. Just keep in mind that this is a very large device, so it’s probably not ideal for offices. If you need a paper drill, consider giving this product a look.
