MBM Paper Folder Review by A former somewhat satisfied user

We ordered a new one as our old one's rollers were wearing out and replacing them (parts and labor) would cost as much as a new one. We got a new one shipped and when we got it it did not work and made three times as much racket as the old one. They sent another one and the same thing. Also it looks like it was refurbished or used parts from different color schemes. Our old one was all consistent in part color. The new ones has a console that was beige and the chassis was off white. That tells me they are mixing it up in the production process and it does not give a feeling of confidence that we are getting a solid unit with parts designed to work together. Make sure the unit your order has been checked out by your local dealer. The unit itsealf can be temperamental and it does not like glossy paper.

Love it! Review by Lily

Works great. We use it to fold invoices and monthly statements. Saves us hours every month. The price point is good and the machine works as expected. No major issues with jamming or performance.

First take the bottom folding plate and observe the sides where the grooves are. Insert the plate along the guide line as marked on the side of the machine until it catches the spoke and fits in place.

Again, do the same for the top fold plate. Guide it in until the spokes fit in place.

Now open the machine and turn it on with the back power switch.

Now observe the folding instructions on the top table and choose the style of fold you would like. Then under your paper size note the positions for the upper and lower plate.

Unscrew the upper plate…and hold it in place so it doesn’t fall…and bring the stop to the positions as referenced on the guide.

With the fold I am using, the instructions say “reverse.” So I will completely reverse the bottom plate instead of adjust the knob. This bypasses the plate for a single fold.

Next unscrew the edge guides and insert your pages. Lightly bring the guides to the edge and tighten them in place.

Then adjust the exit rollers to the proper position to help feed your projects out the machine and stack nicely.

You can set the count by tens, all the way to 1000. This will fold the set number and then stop. You can clear the number at any time by pressing the C button.

Press the green button to initiate the folds. Your pages will insert the machine and fold, exiting out the bottom.

If you run out of paper, or there is a jam, the machine will notify you.

Lastly, you can also extend out the front tables.

MBM 93M Manual Tabletop Paper Folder Review

MBM is an office machine manufacturer that's always putting out fantastic products that can help people improve their productivity. One of their newest machines is the 93M. It's a paper folder that can fold hundreds of sheets per hour so you can get things in the mail much more quickly. We had a chance to give the 93M a try. Let's take a look at it and see what's great about it and if there's anything that might be problematic:

What's great:

  • The 93M has a feed tray that can hold up to 150 sheets of paper at once. When the machine is running, it's fast enough to fold up to 7,200 sheets per hour. It will definitely come in handy when you need to mail out a substantial number of invoices and/or correspondence.

  • It's not surprising that this machine can handle letter-sized paper (8.5" x 11"). However, it's a pleasant surprise to learn that it can handle sheets ranging in size from 4" x 5" to 8.5" x 14". The paper weight can be from 16 to 80 lbs. which is convenient.

  • In addition to doing the letter fold (i.e. folding a sheet into thirds), this device can fold sheets in half, in a Z-like pattern, and do a double parallel fold. Thus, you'll be able to choose from a number of folds and find one that's right for your document.

  • The 93M is extremely easy to use. The control panel is right on top of the device. The folding plates are color coded so you can have them set up in very little time. Best of all, this machine will shut off automatically when all your paper has been folded. This prevents the machine from burning out and reduces the risk of fire.

  • This is a great paper folder for desktop use is due to its reasonably compact size. It measures 14" (depth) x 25" (width) x 17.75" (height) so you can place it on your desk for easy access. The feed table and output tray can be folded in so you can save space.

  • The MBM 93M comes with a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty doesn't extend to the wearable parts.

What might be problematic:

  • While the feed tray can hold up to 150 sheets, you might find that refilling the tray gets tiring when you're trying to finish a large job.

  • The 93M has a exit tray that needs to be extended. This will take up some of your workspace when you're using the folder. However, you can fold the exit tray up when you're done with the folder.

  • You can expect to hear some noise from this device when it's operating. This might be a little bit distracting.

  • If you use this folder on a regular basis, you'll have to replace some of the wearable parts over time since they're not covered by the warranty.

There are a couple of things that might be problematic about the MBM 93M, but overall, we were really impressed with this paper folder. It can fold a lot of sheets in a short period of time, it's easy to use, and it can do four types of folds. Make sure you go over the lists that indicate what's good and problematic before you buy this machine but if you do get it, you will find it to be very helpful. Happy folding!

Questions & Answers
Q:
what is the warranty on the MBM 93M?
Asked by Jeric M. 1 years and 4 months ago ago
A:
This unit comes with a 90 day limited warranty excluding wearables.

Q:
Can this do glossy paper?
Asked by Erin G. 1 years and 4 months ago ago
A:
Although it is possible that it may work depending on how glossy your paper is, this machine is really not recommended for glossy stocks. The 93M uses friction feed rollers that may slip during the feeding process with glossy stocks causing paper jams and headaches.

Q:
Can the 93M fold a C-Fold?
Asked by Jasmine T. 1 years and 4 months ago ago
A:
A traditional "C-Fold" is one of the most popular folds used for letters and the 93M is set up to do this easily provided you are using 8.5" x 11" size paper. If you need to adjust the C fold slightly to make it perfect you will need to adjust the stops on the fold plates. It is really easy.
