You can use staples on these boards, however, we recommend you test one in an inconspicuous spot to be sure the staple doesn't protrude out the back. 1/4" staples should do fine, but longer staples might not be a good idea. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. The measurement for boards is the outside dimensions. The Mead Natural Cork Bulletin Board with Oak Frame has a 1" frame. The "usable space" would be 34" x 46".
