Product Description

The Pro-Bind Hard Cover Book Crimper provides the perfect finish to Hard Bound Books. This hardcover crimper is needed for finishing thermal hard cover cases in order to give your books the correct spine adjustment. Using the Pro-Bind hardback book crimper is as easy as 1-2-3. Immediately after the binding cycle is done, retract the handle on the crimper and place the spine of the book flat on the base towards the back of the hardcover crimper. Then release the handle and let the book stand in the crimper for at least 60 seconds or until the book is cool to the touch. Then Retract the handle and remove the book. It is as simple as that. Just make sure that when you bind the book that the spine is square and that the pages are jogged evenly and laid flat in the spine for the best possible bind.

This is the Pro-Bind Hard Cover Crimper!

After completing a hardcover heat cycle in you thermal binding machine, jog the pages down and immediately insert your hard cover into this crimper—of course I’m going to explain why.

As you can see, push on the handle to open the crimper and insert your book.

The crimper is rounded on both ends to create a nice finish on the spine of your book.

You can adjust the back by pulling it out and repositioning it in the other slots.

Now you can crimp up to two inch thick books!

A good portion of hardcovers have three lines of glue. The one in the center holds all your pages in, and the two side ones helps hold the covers together.

If you only had one strip in the center then your binding would open and expose the glued ends, but the side strips help close the spine and support the binding. (The crimper makes sure the book hardens this way).

Here is a finished book, with nicely rounded and crimped ends, and you can see that the glue is hidden and the covers and spine are nicely supported.

Your pages should closely fit the size of your binding, otherwise you might find yourself with awkward gaps.

There are different colors and customizations available for your thermal binding covers.

Using a standalone glue strip works within the same binding machines. Cut it to length to repair worn book spines or make your own covers.

As you can see, this is a permanent solution. There's no easy way to edit your books once it's complete. And that is thermal binding

ProBind Thermal Hard Cover Crimper Hard Case Crimping Machine Review

Overview:

  • The Pro-Bind Thermal Hardcover crimper replaces the now discontinued Bindit hard cover crimper.
  • It is used to help finish thermal hard cover cases that are bound with your thermal binding machine.
  • The Pro-Bind thermal hard cover crimper is used as a cooling rack for your hard cover cases and as a finishing device to ensure that every book has a uniform look and feel.

Features/ Strengths:

  • The Pro-Bind thermal hard cover crimper helps to ensure the strongest possible bind for your thermal hard cover documents. The crimper takes the hard cover document and forces the hot glue inside the spine up into the base of the pages. This helps to ensure that every page comes into contact with the glue and ensures that pages will not work themselves out the bind. Without the crimper, some pages may not come into contact with the thermal glue and thus may come out of the book.
  • The thermal hardcover crimper also helps to shape the spine of the book. The crimper uses two cylindrical rods to shape the spine of the book so that it has the appearance of a professional case bound book. This helps to provide a uniform look to all your hard cover case bound documents.
  • The Thermal hardcover crimper also acts as a cooling rack for the document. You place the document into the crimper while the glue is still hot. The crimper forces the glue up into the base of the pages and shapes the spine. The book sits inside the crimper until the glue hardens and the book is permanently shaped.

Limitations/Weaknesses:

  • Although the Pro-bind crimper does an excellent job in crimping documents, it can only crimp one document at a time. This essentially limits the productivity of the Pro-Bind hard cover crimper to one book per minute. For some applications this is adequate. However, for high volume applications one book per minute is extremely slow. In these cases, a second hard cover crimper can be used to double productivity.
  • While the Pro-Bind thermal hard cover crimper will help to strengthen the bind of most thermal hard cover cases, some glossy coated papers and thick stocks still have a tendency to fall out of thermal hard cover cases. For these papers, it is an excellent idea to place a couple of staples as close to the binding edge of the book block as possible. The staples will never be seen by the end users and will help to ensure that no page ever falls out of the document.

Recommendation:

  • If you are considering binding hard cover cases with your thermal binding machine the Pro-bind hardcover crimper is a necessity. It is currently the only hard cover crimper available on the market.
  • If you attempt to bind thermal hardcover cases without a hard cover crimper, the pages of your document may fall out or the look of your hard cover document may not be as consistent or professional as is possible.

This machine is only the crimper for a hardcover binding machine. Basically after you bind your book in a thermal binding machine, you would put it in this crimper to reinforce the bind and to push the glue up into the pages. It creases the spines nicely and just gives it a nice finish. If you were looking for an entire kit, you would want something like this: Click here Depending on what size your book is, this kit will bind up to 3/4 of an inch. It also comes with 50 custom hard covers with print. if you have any questions, feel free to call us at 800-944-4573. Congrats on your books and good luck!!

Thank you for your question. You can definitely use the Pro-Binder Hardback book cover crimper machine for a soft back book but it won't have the "groved" look like the hardback book cover. The main purpose of the HardBack Book Hard Cover Crimper is to help set the bind on a hardback cover. With soft covers it is not as necessary as the cover itself doesn't absorb as much heat and naturally gets a solid bind.

If you are binding with thermal hard cover cases you should really use a hard cover crimper. The crimper will ensure the proper bind, shape the spine for a professional look and allow the glue and book to cool properly. The hard cover crimper is not required for Coverbind Hard Covers, Fastback Hard Covers or Velobind hard covers though.
