Welcome to MyBinding Video. This video looks at the Tamerica Versabind-M, a modular manual binding machine. An all-in-one system, one machine that handles four different binding styles. Assemby is very simple, three separate handles to attach, you’re on your way. This Versabind System has everything you need for punching and binding coil, plastic comb, and wire binds. Just switch out the modular punch dies. Let’s make a book and watch this in action.

We’ll start with the coil bind. All the punch dies work the same way with this side margin control knob. This allows you to set your stop in place so that all punches are consistent throughout your whole project. With our scrap paper here, we can see we have a half-punched hole. Well, all the pins are disengageable for each of the dies. This allows you to get the exact punch pattern that you want and enables you to work with various sizes of documents. On the right side of the machine is a depth of margin control knob. There are four different settings that allow you to have a thinner or a thicker margin according to the size and thickness of your document. With all your margins set in their place, it’s time to begin.

Let’s start with the covers. If you start face up, always go face up. Continue to punch through the rest of your project in smaller packets. The Versabind M can punch up to 20 sheets of 20lb paper per lift. With all your papers punched, organize your book; it’s time to bind. Initiate the coil onto the end of the book and then use this groove here on the face of the machine to roll, roll, roll your spine all the way down. And now, finish off your project with a pair of coil crimping pliers. With the red dot always facing up, clip just on the inside of that last coil on both ends of the book. It’s that simple to bind a book with the Versabind-M.

Now this machine can handle four different kinds of binds and comes with four different punch dies and changing them out is very very simple. This little knob on the right hand side locks the die into place so it doesn’t come out. Remove that knob and then slide the die out to the right. It can be a little sticky and tricky at first, just put some more effort into it and slide it on out. And the new modular die goes in reverse, slide it into the groove all the way into the machine to the left and then fasten it down with the knob. And for all subsequent books, you do the same thing; the side margin control and depth of margin, make punches in the packs of 20 sheets or less, assemble your book and bind.

On the top of the Versabind-M is a plastic comb opener. This is where you open your plastic comb, and drape your book over, and close the comb, and that book is all done with plastic comb binding.

The Versabind also does 2:1 and 3:1 wire binding. Simply remove the old die, put in your new modular die, and you’re on your way. The Versabind does not have a fence to hold your wire but it does have this clamp that holds your wire in place so you can drape your project over it. It’s just as good as a fence and in some ways a little faster. On the table facing the machine is a small compartment. Lift the lid and this is the wire closer. Make your adjustment, and with the smaller handle you pull down and close the wire.

As you can imagine, the 3:1 wire is very similar; pull the old one out, put the new one in, and punch and bind your way all the way to a finished product, always adjusting that closer to the size wire that you’re using.

Tamerica’s Versabind Modular M is a bit of an investment. But with it’s versatility, it will certainly pay off. And that’s, the Versabind M by Tamerica. For more demos, reviews, and how-tos, check out MyBinding.com.

Welcome to MyBinding video. This video will show you how to change out the dies on the Versabind-M by Tamerica. The VersaBind-M comes with four different modular punch dies: a 2:1 and 3:1 wire, 4:1 coil, and a plastic comb die. They all work exactly the same way and are installed and uninstalled in the same fashion. And there is no difference between Versabind-M or E. Let's demonstrate by replacing the coil die with the plastic comb die. This little knob on the right hand side locks the die in the place so it doesn't move around. Remove that knob and then slide the die out to the right. We found that with the first few removals of this dies it was a bit tricky. It was kind of sticky and you had to use a lot of force to push it out. Once you got going it'll worked really well. And the new modular die goes in reverse. Slide it into the groove all the way into the machine to the left and then fasten it down with the knob. The strength of this binding system is the modular units. All four of them work in the same way in the same machine, allowing for many different results. We hope this has been helpful. For more demos, reviews, and how to's, check out MyBinding.com.

Tamerica Versabind Modular Manual Binding Machine Review

With so many great binding methods available, settling on one can be difficult. That's why there are combination machines such as the Tamerica Versabind, a device that offers three different ways to finish your documents. Here's what's great about this product, as well as a brief look at what could be improved.

What's great:

  • The Versabind gives you three different ways of binding your documents. Depending on what your project requires, you can do comb, wire, and spiral coil binding. When using this device for wire binding, you'll be able to use both 3:1 and 2:1 pitch wire spines. To switch between methods, all you need to do is swap out the dies using Tamerica's "EZ Slide" die system.

  • In addition to several different sets of punch dies, this machine has the following features that are necessary for finishing off your documents: a comb spreader, a wire clamp and closer, and a coil channel.

  • This machine has a decent punching capacity: it can punch up to 20 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper per lift. It can punch paper that's up to 14" long for the comb and wire methods, and 13" paper for the coil one.

  • As for binding capacities, the Versabind is compatible with 2" combs, 50 millimeter coils, and 1.25" wire spines.

  • All 24 of this machine's punching pins are disengageable so you can work with documents that are smaller or larger than letter-size (8.5" x 11").

  • When you use this device, you'll be able to take advantage of its depth adjustment control. This feature allows you to control where the holes are punched in relation to the edge of the paper, resulting in documents that are bound more securely.

  • The Versabind is compatible with just about any plastic comb and wire/coil spine out there, so finding supplies will be very easy.

  • This device has all-metal construction which makes it durable, as well as suitable for fairly heavy use. It comes with a 90-day warranty.

What could be improved:

  • To be honest, the Versabind looks rather intimidating even though it's easy to use once you get the hang of it. If you're a bit put off by its appearance, just give it a chance and you'll find that using it isn't really that difficult.

  • The punching/binding handle is located on the machine's right side, so left-handed users might find operating this device to be challenging.

  • This device is pretty large, so be prepared to make some room for it. Its dimensions are as follows: 22.2" (width) x 27.4" (depth) x 14.0" (height). Plus, it weighs 90 pounds, so ask someone to help you is you ever need to move it.

In a nutshell, the Tamerica Versabind is the device to get if your company needs a combination binding machine. Despite its intimidating appearance, this product is easy to use, so just about anyone can learn how to operate it. Plus, it offers three binding methods, all-metal construction, and the ability to choose where your holes are punch. So if you need a device to help you bind books in a variety of ways, the Versabind is what you need.
