Going from this to this is real simple. The first thing you do is gather your materials together that you're going to bind. Starting with the covers, let's begin the punching. Adjust the side margin control knob to assure that all your papers are punched in the same place. And with the knob on the side, you can adjust the depth of your punch. Be sure that you have the correct side slid into the throat of the machine and make your punch. Be sure to disengage any dies that you might need to stay in line with the size of your paper. You don't want extra or half punched holes. Continue punching the rest of the pages in your project. You'll have to go in small batches of 10-12 sheets at a time.

When you're all set, put your booklet in order and select your comb. For assistance in choosing the correct comb, there are two measure tools inside the chip tray and you can simply slide your project into the wedge to find out exactly what size comb you need.

All set with your selection? Thread the comb over the teeth of the spine on the top of the machine. Remember in comb binding always to keep the teeth faced up and the project faced down; that way your project does not fall apart when in use. Use the same lever that you used to punch to open the teeth of the comb and thread your project over the comb. Be sure all the teeth are completely through the punches and close the comb.

And you're all set. It's that simple with the Tamerica Tashin Eco 21 Plastic Comb Binding Machine. For more demos and reviews of this product and many more, visit MyBinding.com.

Welcome to MyBinding video. Today we're looking at the Tamerica Tashin Eco 21 Comb Binding Machine. Let's review the features of the Eco 21 while we turn this into this.

The Eco 21 has all metal construction. It is a plastic comb binding and punching machine. Punch capacity is of high importance. The Eco 21 claims 15 sheets of 20lb paper. While the punch felt clean and sharp, it was too difficult with 15 sheets, 10-12 is more realistic. The Eco 21 has a side margin control dial. This allows you to set a margin so that all your papers are punched in the same spot. While this feature is an industry standard, this one seems to be sub par in quality and functionality. Likewise, the punch depth adjustment knob is nice, but doesn't seem to be built as sturdy as the rest of the machine.

This machine has 21 disengageable punching dies instead of the usual 19. This, combined with an open throat design, makes it extremely easy to punch different sizes of paper by simply adjusting the side margins as much as you need. This feature, and the ability to flip documents end on end to make more punches, is certainly a sell point. It's a very versatile punch system. Comb selection is made easy by two measuring tools that are located conveniently inside the chip tray of the machine. When all your pages are punched, you simply slide your finished product into the measuring gauge.

The same lever arm that's used for punching is also used for opening the plastic combs. It can handle combs up to two inches in size, which means you can bind a book that has 450 sheets in it. But punching that many sheets of paper would be pretty tedious with this machine. However, with a price point of well under $200 for a complete punch and bind system, this may be the ticket for you or your business.

Tamerica Eco-21 Comb Binding Machine Review

Even in this day and age, plastic comb binding remains one of the most popular document finishing methods available. Tamerica, one of the industry’s leading manufacturers, recently put out some new comb binders including the Eco-21. Here’s a look at this machine’s features and specifications, as well as how it rates on a scale of 1 to 10.

  • The Eco-21 has reasonably decent punching capacity. It’s able to process up to 15 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper at a time. This will be great for when you’re working with short and medium-length documents. However, it will take you a while to punch paper if your document is fairly lengthy. (This could be a problem if you have a lot of work to do.)
  • This machine has 21 punching dies instead of the usual 19. This will allow you to work with letter-sized paper (8.5” x 11”) as well as A4 sheets, which tend to mainly be used abroad, such as in the U.K. The dies are disengageable and there’s an opening throat to make it extremely easy to punch different sizes of paper. You can adjust the side margins and punch depth as much as you need to.
  • The Eco-21 is compatible with just about every binding cover available as well as all sizes of binding combs. (It can even handle GBC ZipBind supplies.) This means you’ll be able to bind books that contain up to 450 pages which makes it very convenient. (They’ll look great as well.)
  • One of the most appealing things about the Eco-21 is its heavy-duty construction. This machine contains a multitude of metal parts so you’ll be able to get years of use out of it. And even though this is a durable device, it’s actually pretty compact. Its approximate measurements are 16” (width) x 11” (depth) x 7” (height) and it only weighs 21 pounds.
  • The Eco-21 is high-quality but it doesn’t come with a high price. Plus, it’s backed by a one-year warranty.

Final Rating: 8. Overall, the Eco-21 is one of Tamerica’s best comb binding machines yet. This is a very impressive product that would be great for a variety of environments including schools, office, copy shops, and more. There aren’t a lot a reasonably priced machines that offer disengageable dies and an open punching throat, so that really makes the Eco-21 stand out in its field. This device is very well-constructed so you’ll be able to get a lot of use out of it, making it a terrific investment. The only thing that could be problematic with this device is its punching capacity. As mentioned earlier, the capacity is fine for shorter documents but it’s not so great for longer ones, especially if you’re going to be putting together a lot of them. This is something you should consider before purchasing the device. If you do decide that the punching capacity is workable, then you’re going to be very pleased with the Eco-21. Take a look at it today to decide for yourself.
