The TM-20 is great for the home or small office as well as for schools, classrooms and churches. An added bonus to the TM-20 is the corner rounder. It's built right into the surface of the machine, everything stays nice and flat and it works great. Tamerica’s TM-20 5-in-1 Paper Trimmer Review
Are you shopping for a rotary trimmer? If so, you should check out the Tamerica TM-20 5-in-1 Paper Trimmer. It’s a device that’s compatible with different types of blades and it even has a built-in corner rounder. Here are the strengths of this product so you can decide if it’s what you need.
Strengths:
- The Tamerica TM-20 has a 12-inch cutting length, making it ideal for paper of the following sizes: letter (8.5” x 11”), A4 (8.3” x 11.7”), and half-letter (5.5” x 8.5). It can even be used for legal-sized documents (8.5” x 14”) as long as you want to trim them on the 8.5” side.
- You can use four different types of blades with this trimmer. In addition to the typical straight blade, wavy, scoring and perforated blades can be utilized. That makes this device great for paper crafts as well as traditional cutting. The blades are easy to change and it won’t take you very long to swap them out.
- You can use the TM-20 without injuring yourself because the blades are encased in plastic. It’s unlikely that you’ll wind up actually touching the blade which really helps reduce the risk of injuries. There’s also a plastic safety guide for added protection.
- Both standard and metric measurements are printed on the base so you can easily measure your documents.
- As mentioned before, this trimmer has an integrated corner rounder. A corner rounder makes it easy to give your document rounded corners for a high-class look that can be used for presentations, marketing materials, crafts, and more.
- Your paper scraps will be stored in a built-in waste bin. The bin is easy to empty so you can dispose of your scraps quickly and without getting them all over your workspace.
- The Tamerica TM-20 isn’t very large so you’ll be able to save room in your workspace. It measures 18″ (length) x 9″ (width) x 3.5″ (height). It’s pretty light as well – it only weighs about 3 pounds. That makes it easy to tote around if necessary.
Weaknesses:
- The main drawback to using the Tamerica TM-20 is that its cutting capacity isn’t that great. It can only cut a maximum of 5 sheets at a time when you use a straight blade. (The cutting capacity drops down to 3 sheets when using specialty blades.) This will be fine if you don’t need to cut a lot of paper at once. Otherwise, you should probably use a guillotine cutter instead.
- If you need to work with paper that’s really long, this trimmer probably won’t fit the bill due to its 12-inch cutting length.
- The Tamerica TM-20 has a plastic base unlike some other rotary trimmers that have metal foundations. Thus, it’s not as durable as some other models.
Recommendation:
The Tamerica TM-20 definitely isn’t a heavy-duty rotary trimmer due to its construction and cutting capacity, but it would be a good choice for small and medium-sized projects, especially crafts. It’s great that it can handle a variety of blades and that it has a built-in corner rounder. It’s also lightweight and won’t take up much room. So if you need a portable trimmer for those smaller projects, be sure to check out the Tamerica TM-20.
