There is no need for a safety cap with this blade! Simply push the side tab in and up into the middle position to reveal the blade. At this point you can make your cuts!
Now, it’s not as sturdy of a handle, since it is a hollow plastic, but with basic use it should hold up just as well as any other.
And like all X-acto knives, you can easily switch out the blades. Push the tab up to the highest position and twist the textured portion. This will release the blade which you can take out and place a new one in.
