Welcome to MyBinding Video. This is a how-to video on the assembly and refilling of cartridges for the Xyron 1255. It’s as simple to assemble and refill as it is to use. Step one is the handle. It goes on the right hand side fitting inside the groove. Included with your purchase is a small Allen wrench to tighten it down. And then the tray, it slides right in and snaps. Push the tabs on both sides to pull it out. Everything else is built right into the machine. On the inside of the cartridge loading cover are instructions to help you along the way.
To load or refill the cartridge, simply lift the cover and slide it down inside. All cartridges work the same way for this machine. First you'll need to remove the project table and open the lid. The cartridges are built with knobs on the side that slide down into these grooves. It fits right in and guides it all the way back. Make sure that the round adhesive side is facing toward the back and the label toward the front. Replace the loading table and you’re all set.
But before your first laminating job, you need to prime it. So remove the work table and with a piece of cardboard or hard card stock, prime the rollers by placing it into the rollers, winding it forward until it comes up the back side, and keep going until its nice and smooth and wrinkle free. Then with the built in razor on the back, slide it off and you’re all set. Replace that table you’re ready to go.
You'll quickly learn that the Xyron 1255 is capable of many different kinds of laminating. There is one- or two-sided, matte or glossy standard laminating. The permanent adhesive cartridge allows you to make stickers out of on anything that are permanently adhered. And there is also repositional or temporary adhesive. This allows you to make changes in your projects, allowing you to make a change from one surface to the other.

Xyron 1255 Professional Laminator Product Review
Overview:
- Xyron is a leading manufacturer of cold laminators. Their products have become very popular with crafters, but these machines can just as easily be used in a professional environment. In fact, the company actually makes a line of professional-grade machines that are perfect for business use. One of these machines is the Xyron 1255 Professional Laminator. This is a great machine that is ideal for use by copy shops, graphic designers, artists, and other professionals who need a great laminator that can also apply adhesive to items such as mock-ups. Although this machine is first-rate, it does have a couple of minor weaknesses, which are discussed in-depth below, so keep on reading to find out all about this device.
Features/ Strengths:
- The 1255 can laminate documents that are up to 11.75 inches wide, so it's a great machine to use if your document is a little bit larger than the standard 8.5" x 11" size.
- This is a fully manual machine that is easy to use. All you need to do is place your paper into the machine's feed opening and begin cranking the handle. Within seconds, your document will be beautifully laminated.
- Since this machine is manual, you do not need electricity to operate it. That means there's no heat involved and, thus, no warm-up time is necessary. Plus, with the 1255, you can easily laminate documents that would be damaged if they processed through heat lamination.
- This machine can not only laminate, it can apply adhesive to one or both sides of your document. (This would be good for things such as storyboards.) To do this, you just need to change the cartridge, which is very easy to accomplish. There are several different adhesive types available: hi-tack, standard, and repositionable. (Note: if you want the strongest bond possible, use the hi-tack adhesive as it instantly creates a permanent bond.) All of these adhesives are acid-free so they won't ruin your project.
- The components of this machine are very high-quality which leads to flawless lamination and adhesive application. The high-pressure rollers ensure that the laminate will be applied without wrinkles or bubbles and that the adhesive application will be totally even.
- There is a built-in trimmer so you can immediately trim excess laminate after your document has exited the machine.
Limitations/Weaknesses:
- The handle is on the right side of the unit so while right-handed people will be comfortable with this design, lefties may experience some problems, unfortunately.
- You can only laminate items that are 3.2 millimeters thick or less. And this is not a good machine to use for large-format documents, obviously, since the machine is too small to handle them.
Recommendation:
- Overall, the 1255 has many more strengths than weaknesses. It's really great that you can not only laminate with this machine, but you can also apply adhesive to your project. Since this unit has some many functions and features, the Xyron 1255 Professional Laminator is highly recommended.
