First off, it's just pretty good looking. It even has a fully automated retractable dust cover when you turn it on. The power button doubles as a temperature selection dial. The iLam 340 can handle 3 to 7mil thickness of pouches. The knob's blinking light will turn solid when the machine is warmed and ready to go. The iLam 340 can also do cold lamination.
The laminating speed is 23 inches per minute, which means a standard sized document will take just around 30 seconds. That's pretty fast. Though you should always lay your finished projects down on a surface to cool, this machine has a fan that cools it very quickly as it's processing. Though very rare, should a jam occur, there's a reverse button. It turns the rollers backwards and allows you to re-center or remove your project. A quiet tune plays in the background to let you know the machine is in reverse.
The throat opening is 13.4 inches wide. Where this is good size for many projects, 11.5" by 14" size documents or larger things like this simply can't be done. But using a long pouch with multiple materials inside is certainly a way to go. Small objects, such as name badges or cards, are easily done. Likewise, photos and other heat sensitive materials. Simply change your selection of heat and size mil of pouch thickness. Unfortunately this machine is not compatible with 10mil thickness of pouches.

The iLam 340's laminating speed is 24 inches per minute, so you won't be waiting long for your projects to be done. Rest finished products on a flat surface to cool completely. The first button on the side allows the rollers to turn backwards, so you can remove or re-center a project. A small tune allows you to know it's in reverse. Akiles iLam 340 Pouch Laminator Review
Pouch laminators make it easy to protect and preserve your documents. There’s a new one that just became available: the Akiles iLam 340. This is a high-quality device that has a lot of great things to offer such as hot and cold settings and a wide feed opening. It’s also easy to operate. We recently took a look at this machine to discover its strengths and weaknesses. Here’s what we found out.
Strengths:
- The iLam 340 has a wide feed opening. It’s 13.4 inches across so you’ll find it easily to laminate a variety of items, especially letter- and legal-sized documents. This is a great laminator use if you need to process certificates, signs, name badges, and other assorted documents.
- This machine has both hot and cold settings, so you’ll be able to process thermally sensitive documents. (That includes ink-jet printouts and photographs.) The temperature is adjusted by turning a knob on the side of the machine. It will glow red when the hot setting is in use and turn blue when it’s in cold mode.
- The iLam 340 has 4 rollers so you’re just about guaranteed to get great results whenever you use this machine. The rollers will give your document a smooth, crystal clear look and your work will be free from wrinkles and heat marks.
- Clearing up jams is easy with this machine. It has a reverse button you can press to help clear things up. If the jam is really bad, it’s easy to open this machine up.
- This isn’t a particularly large laminator despite its wide feed opening. Its dimensions are 17.5” (width) x 9.5” (depth) x 5.75” (height) so you’ll be able to make room for it without any problems. Moving it to a new location will be a snap since it only weighs 15 pounds.
- The iLam 340 comes with a one-year warranty so you’ll have full protection if you encounter any problems. Also, this machine is reasonably priced so your wallet won’t take too big of a hit.
Weaknesses:
- This laminator is only compatible with pouches that are from 3 to 7 mil thick. While pouches of these thicknesses are good for everyday use, not being able to use 10 mil pouches will be inconvenient if your document needs a lot of protection.
- The iLam 340’s feed opening won’t cut it if you need to work with really large documents.
The Akiles iLam 340’s strengths definitely outnumber its weaknesses, making this machine well worth a look if you’re in the market for a new laminator. This device offers a wide feed opening, hot and cold settings, and a great warranty. You’ll find that it’s easy to clear up pouch jams and you’re going to be really impressed with the appearance of your laminated documents thank to this device’s 4 rollers. While it would be nice if the iLam 340 could work with 10 mil pouches, it’s nonetheless a first-rate device. Be sure to take a look at it if you need a laminator.
