The 402 Console by Intimus is a uniquely designed shredder.  Able to double as both a shredder as well as additional surface space, the Console is conveniently designed for even the smallest of spaces.  Automatic features make this shredder easy to use while powerful blades swiftly slice through stacks of documents.  Here is a more detailed look at the 402 Console.

Strengths:

• This innovative device is run via electronics controlled by a microprocessor.  The “Ready” indicator lets the user know the machine is warmed up and ready for use.  A light barrier triggers the automatic start and stop functions, which shreds when you need and turns off the blades when you’re done.  LED indicators display the status of your shredder with lights for a full shred bag, a paper jam, an open cabinet door, and a removed waste basket.  An overload shut down via auto stop and reverse prevents jams by not allowing too much paper in at once.  These functions work together to provide you with a shredder that is simple and stress-free to use.
• The powerful, maintenance free motor is rated for continuous duty.  This allows for periods of extended use without needing a cool down period as many smaller shredders require.  It also offers “whisper quiet” operation to keep noise down in your office.
• One really nice feature of this shredder is that it is built into a cabinet with a large surface area on top.  This allows you to store a printer, fax, copier, or other small office machine directly on top of your shredder for easy multitasking.  There is also an additional shelf to store copy paper or other needed office items.
• A convenient front loading 9.5 inch paper feed accepts up to 25 sheets at once, even stapled and paperclipped documents.  The hardened steel blades slice papers as fast as 20 feet per minute and churn out ¼ inch strips.
• Those narrow strips are deposited in to a sizable shred bag with 1.41 cubic feet of storage.  This gives you enough space to store a reasonable amount of shreds while still  being manageable.

Weaknesses:

• The ¼ inch strips only provide a level 2 security rating.  This keeps general office documents, such as memos and orders, safely out of the wrong hands.  But more sensitive material should be put through a higher security shredder, such as this model in the cross cut version.
• Weighing in at 85 pounds when empty, this is a decent sized piece of office equipment.  However, double wheeled casters mounted on the bottom allow for easy mobility and we think weight won’t be much of a problem for most users.

Clearly the 402 Console is an excellent shredder designed to meet the low security needs of any office.  Powerful blades swiftly slice through large stacks of documents.  A large top surface area allows you to multitask while you shred.  And automatic features make this device extremely easy to operate.  We would recommend the 402 Console for any office needing an efficient and reliable shredder.
