We introduce you to the Standard Horizon PF-40 Folder. It’s a push-button, programmable folder. Sheet sizes up through 12” x 18” sheets at speeds up to 23,000 per hour. It utilizes the feeding system that’s used in the VAC 100 Collators, which is a rotary pulse-vacuum feed system so we’re feeding off of the top of the stack. The feed tray holds a thousand sheets of a 20-pound xerographic paper and, like I said, it’s a push-button operation. You select the size of the paper and the fold pattern you want and press ‘Start.’ The folder automatically calibrates both bubble settings and then begins the feeding. The PF-40 uses an intermediate register table to square up the sheets before they enter the fold assembly. The fold plates or buckle plates open up for easy jam clearance without requiring any tools to remove paper jams and keep the machine going. There is balance adjustment for your thickness of stock for each side and each set of rollers so that you can get perfectly square folders folds from even the most difficult digital stock that you print on. The stock weight range is rated for anywhere from a 13-pound bond to 156 GSM weight paper, which would be equivalent about 100-pound text. That’s without a crease or score. If you crease or score the sheets, you can easily do up to an 80-pound cover for folding on this machine. Changeover, like I said, is push-button so if I was to switch this over to an 11” x 17” half-fold, I simply select 11” x 17” and a half-fold. Paper folders come in a wide range of sizes and abilities but near the top of the line sits suction feed models. One great example of this is the Standard Horizon PF-40 Automated Paper Folder. This machine is designed for high volume performance utilizing suction control and Horizon's well-known intuitive automation. Here is a closer look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Horizon PF-40.
Strengths:

A push-button control panel easily sets up the automatically adjusting fold plates. A built-in registration guide table keeps sheets flowing through at maximum speed. The speed is also manually adjustable in five different modes, ranging from the fastest, high speed mode, to the slowest, quiet operation mode. The high speed is possible by the high performance suction roller system.

An easily operated, user-friendly console also offers control over the integrated counter and job memory. Up to ten jobs can store in the computer's memory, especially handy for complicated or repeat jobs.

This machine weighs over 300 pounds and will be difficult to move. An optional pedestal with casters on the bottom is available and highly recommended if you foresee yourself needing to move this paper folder on a regular basis.

One thing businesses often appreciate is a manual bypass for the feeding of multiple sheets for combined folding. This allows the quick creation of multi-page newsletters, mailers, and bulletins. Unfortunately, suction feed machines don't generally have this feature. For a high quality friction feed folder with this ability, we recommend the Formax FD38x.
Overall, the Standard Horizon PF-40 is perfect for high volume applications.
