ProductDescription
The Proton 1100 Magnetic Media Wand Degausser is for disk drives, diskpacks, drum memories and other magnetic media. The Proton 1100 Degaussing Wand is designed to provide maximum security level media degaussing for a wide range of magnetic media.Conventional magnetic recording devices (recording heads) cannot provide the flux density required to totally erase magnetic signatures. The magnetic information remains in the media after conventional erasing techniques and reformatting procedures. Only a high-energy magnetic circuit that provides a full-cycle (+ – + -) field can reliably erase this remnant magnetic information to a full security level. A magnetic shield is provided for safe storage of the degaussing wand. Proton 1100 effectively degausses disk drives, diskpacks, drum type memories, floppies and any flat-surface magnetic memory. The Proton 1100 has been tested for Perpendicular Magnetic Disk Storage Devices and can securely erase up to and including 5000 Oersteds

Today we’re going to take a look at the Proton model 1100 Degaussing Wand. It’s a great manual degausser, so come on in and we’ll show you how it works. With Degaussing Wand, you have to actually remove the covers of the hard drive and erase the platters inside manually. Some hard drives will have multiple platters inside of the hard drive. To erase these platters, this is where all the data, and that’s what you want to demagnetize and wipe. You simply take the Degaussing Wand out of the protective shield. Take the platter where all the data is held, and you’re going to wipe, maintaining contact with the disk from the middle to the perimeter, just like this. This is demagnetizing the disk, totally sanitizing it and erasing the data that’s reported on there. You’ll have to do it to both sides. And to meet NSA requirements, it’s recommended you do this three times. When you’re done using it, it’s important to make sure you put the wand back into the protective shield in case this shield is a magnetic field, so it won’t stick to other metal objects or have any stray magnetic field escaping because it is a powerful magnet.
