Demonstration Video
Welcome to MyBinding video. The GBC CombBind C12 binding machine has easy to follow graphic direction while the machine keeps this process simple to follow. First, grab your pages up to 12 sheets of 20 pound paper at a time. Place the pages into the slot along the edge of the adjusting knob. Turn this knob to compensate for oversized cover pages. Once straight with the machine, pull the liver down to punch your holes. You can use a variety of comb sizes depending on your project. When using the comb opener, make sure the solid side is facing the machine with the teeth pointing up. This ensures the comb will open properly for you. Pull the lever on the side until the teeth are far enough open to fit all your pages. Gently thread your project over the teeth of the comb, ensuring every hole goes through its respective tooth. Close your binding up, slide your book out, there you have it. A great project done by the GBC CombBind C12. GBC CombBind C12 Comb Binding Machine Review
GBC has been making high-quality plastic comb binding machines for years and they recently added a new product to their already impressive line-up: the CombBind C12. This machine was produced to replace the old CombBind C75 and C55 machines. (Those products will be phased out by the end of 2010.) If you're looking for your first comb binding machine or are shopping for a replacement, you'll want to give the C12 your consideration, so here's a look at its strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths:
- The first thing you'll notice about this product is its striking appearance. This is a sleek new device that makes other plastic comb binders look like big, clunky behemoths. Its approximate dimensions are 18” (width) x 8” (height) x 17” (depth) so it won't take up very much room at all.
- The C12 has a 12-sheet punching capacity. This isn't the highest punching capacity in the world, but it should do just fine if you're using the device for small jobs.
- You can use this device to create booklets containing up to 200 pages. The plastic combs you use to bind your books can be up to 1 inch thick. It would be a great machine to use if you need to create marketing materials, presentations, reports, and so on.
- Both the punching and binding capacities are big improvements over those of the C55 and C75. The C55 could only punch 5 sheets and bind 90 while the C75 could bind 125 and punch 10. Those devices don't even come close to measuring up to the C12.
- The C12 has a D-shaped handle so it can be easily operated by both right- and left-handed users. If this is your first time using a comb binding machine, you'll find it easy because all the instructions you need are printed on the device. There's even a color-coded spine selector guide you can you to determine which size comb you need.
- This machine has suction cups on the bottom of it. They help keep the device in place when you're using it.
- This is one of GBC's most affordable comb binders. It's priced at less than $115.00 so you'll be able to enjoy GBC quality without breaking the bank. The device comes with a one-year warranty.
Weaknesses:
- This machine's punching and binding capacities may be improvements over the C55 and C75's, but they're still on the low side. Thus, this product isn't really fit for high output environments such as binderies and print shops. However, it's more than suitable for home, school, and office use.
- The C12 doesn't have an open throat nor does it have disengageable dies. Thus, you'll only be able to use letter-sized paper and slightly oversized covers.
In a nutshell, the GBC CombBind C12 is a wonderful new product that's good for both new and seasoned users. It looks great, can be easily used, and its punching and binding capacities are huge improvements over those of the C55 and C75. So if you're looking for a new comb binding machine, the C12 is definitely worth your consideration.

Questions & Answers
It is well built and can hold up to 20 sheets of 20lb paper. I am not sure about how any of our machines would work if the paper is too damaged, but its nice sharp punching dies will help, and I would think punching less paper at a time would help to get a good punch.
