The Fast Drying White Padding Compound would work for tear off calenders with 20lb paper. Unfortunately, how many coats you use depends on how thick you put it on, humidity, and other factors, so that is something that you would have to gauge yourself. It is advise that you put 1 coat on, let it dry, and then assess if you need to add another coat.

Thank you for your question. The Fast Drying White Padding Compound is the correct item for the tops of your pads, as it turns clear when it dries, to make tear off pads.

In speaking with the manufacturer about the Fast Drying White Padding Compound, they were not able to provide a time frame for drying due to large number of variables that can effect drying time. Factors that effect drying time include the type of stock it is applied to, the thickness of application and the humidity of the work space.
