The short side slot is a small slot (1/2" long) on the 2 3/8" side. You can purchase them without a slot at https://www.mybinding.com/large-bookmark-2-3-8-x-8-1-2-laminating-pouches-100pk.html?sku=TLP3LGBOOKMARK.
