However, added functions are worthwhile only when they match regular work. Consider the number of positions, perforation pattern, score location, sheet direction, and setup time between jobs. Count perforating and scoring equipment may suit operations where numbering is only one part of document finishing. A dedicated numbering unit can remain simpler for businesses that do not need additional processes. Base the choice on actual monthly jobs, operator skill, maintenance demands, and available production space.

Confirm the maximum number of parts the machine can process and whether the numbering impression transfers clearly through every layer. Paper thickness, carbonless construction, form alignment, and impact strength all affect the result. A machine suitable for single sheets may not create a clear number on the final part of a multipart set. The feed path must also keep every layer aligned without shifting or separating. Test the real forms whenever possible, particularly when the number must appear inside a fixed box. Check whether crash numbering requires a specific head, ink, or setup. Operators should inspect both the top and final copies during production rather than assuming a clear top impression means every layer has been numbered correctly.

Identify the required ink, cartridges, pads, numbering heads, cleaning products, and any machine specific holders before the first production run. The correct supply depends on the numbering system and should not be selected by ink color alone. Confirm compatibility, expected yield, storage instructions, and whether a different supply is needed for porous or coated stock.
