Soft Touch Laminating Film

Choose soft touch film when the finished piece needs a smooth matte surface, reduced glare, and a premium hand feel. It works well for book covers, presentation pieces, cards, packaging, and marketing materials where touch and appearance matter. Gloss film is better when you want brighter shine, stronger color pop, or a traditional laminated look. If the printed item will be read under bright lights, soft touch can make the surface easier on the eyes. If the piece needs high visual impact from a distance, gloss may be better. Match the finish to the customer experience, not just the artwork.

Check the roll width, roll length, core size, film type, and thickness before ordering. The roll must fit your laminator’s width capacity and mandrel setup. Core size is especially important because a roll with the wrong core will not load correctly. Also consider whether the film is suitable for the printed material and finish you want. If you run different laminated projects, keep your most common widths in mind so you do not create unnecessary waste. For smaller sheet-based jobs, pouch laminators may be a better fit.

Soft touch laminating film is a strong option for premium print jobs because it adds a smooth, velvet-like surface while still protecting the printed piece. It is useful when the item will be held by customers, clients, or staff and the feel of the material matters. Common uses include covers, cards, menus, promotional pieces, and presentation materials. The matte look can also reduce glare and give the print a more refined appearance. For basic protection only, a standard film may be enough. Choose soft touch when the finish is part of the product’s perceived quality.

To reduce waste, match the film width closely to the size of your printed materials. A wider roll may be useful for mixed jobs, but it can waste material if most pieces are narrow. Also consider the roll length and how often the film will be used. For regular production, larger rolls may reduce changeovers. For occasional projects, smaller quantities may be easier to manage. Make sure your machine can handle the selected roll before buying. If your work includes both roll and pouch jobs, keep smaller-format pouches available for quick one-off pieces.
