The right thickness depends on the machine’s capacity and how the finished material will be handled. Lightweight film is suitable for posters, classroom materials, and documents that should remain flexible. Thicker film adds body and may suit frequently handled reference sheets, reusable signs, or items needing greater stiffness. Heavier film often requires more heat or a slower processing speed, so the machine must support it. Consider the thickness of the paper or cardstock as well. A thick laminate over heavy stock may be too rigid for the feed path or may curl after cooling. Test one representative sheet before processing the full job.

The end-cap system helps place the upper and lower rolls in the correct positions and orientation. Proper loading prevents the adhesive sides from facing the wrong direction and reduces threading errors. Each roll must still be seated fully so it unwinds evenly and maintains consistent tension. Do not remove or modify the end caps to make an incompatible roll fit another machine. Wrinkles may result from uneven roll seating, incorrect tension, misaligned film, unsuitable temperature, or documents entering at an angle. First ensure both rolls are installed in their correct positions and that the film tracks evenly across the machine. Allow the laminator to reach its operating temperature before feeding work. Curled or uneven paper can also introduce creases as it enters the nip. If wrinkles appear consistently on one side, inspect that roll and its mounting point. Do not pull the film sideways while the machine is running. A short leader or test sheet can confirm alignment before valuable documents are laminated.

Keep rolls in their original packaging or a clean protective covering. Store them horizontally or in the position recommended by the manufacturer so the ends are not bent and the film does not develop flat spots. Avoid heat, direct sunlight, moisture, and dusty production areas. The adhesive layer should remain protected because contamination can create marks or bonding problems. If a different machine format is also used in the same facility, label the storage area clearly. Other thermal laminating roll film should be separated by width, thickness, and machine system to prevent incorrect rolls from reaching the laminator.
